Source of Z80 Processors
Hi all,
After seeing the somewhat inflated prices that +2A's and +3's seem to be going for on eBay I'm wondering if trying to fix my 48k+ is a better option...
Can anyone point me towards a source of Z80 chips?
Thanks
gareth

In the UK, Farnell (www.farnell.com/uk) is a suitable supplier:
Part Number Z84C0008PEG - 40 PIN DIP Z80, Max Speed 8MHz. (Z84C is the code for CMOS Z80 (the old NMOS ones were discontinued in the 90s), 0008 is the speed, PEC is packaging type - 40pin DIP, Lead Free)
Farnell Order Code: 1081890
Ignore some of the crap on the specs page, 256 byte RAM ... they've made a mistake, which is quite common for Farnell! It is the correct part listed and what you would want if replacing the Z80. I have to use the Z84C0008 when repairing SAM Coupés which are clocked at 6MHz.
They don't stock the slower 4 and 6 MHz versions, but don't get confused with clock speed - that is the maximum speed the chip is rated for, it will still run perfectly when clocked at 3.5MHz for a Speccy!

Today, I put this model of z80 in a Spectrum +2A. It works perfectly

If anyone cares, I've added this to the Tech Info wiki.
They still make pin compatible ones, in 40 pin DIP packages (i.e. what you want for a Spectrum).

Have fun
This guy is confused. His title text mentions Z80A and PIO in one line and says they're CMOS. His description text talks PIO and says they're NMOS. The picture is of two CPUs but mentions the picture is an example only, not of the actual item. A PIO is not a CPU and from this ad who the hell knows what you're getting.

Oddly you can get them singularly from the Australian RS site..
