ipods

edited March 2008 in Chit chat
just bought my very first ipod :)
an 8gb ipod nano (cos i was fed up of the cheaper shit that broke within the first few months :( )
anyway i didnt fancy being locked in to itunes so did some searching

found out you CAN use winamp BUT for some reason my ipod wouldnt appear in the portables section (even tho its the correct winamp version)

but ive discovered mediamonkey finds the ipod straight away so im gonna try that to import tunes......just finished scanning my new 500gb hard drive to import tunes to the library :P

iPods are sinister devil-machines from the future and I refuse to own one!

Well I don't want to support another evil big corp, so no ipods for me.

But I do shop at Tesco cos I've got share in 'em...

    I hate people with iPods.

Especially the b*st*rd that nicked mine!

apparently i'm too old to own an ippod. my gf went to dixons at xmas to buy me a music player, so she asked the assistant what was best an ipod or an mp3 player. he asked how old i was. she said 28, and he replied that she should get me an mp3 player, as ipods were for teenagers as a fashion statement.

Yeah, I'd go for a Sony mp3 walkman everytime. They look gorgeous,(certainly give Apple's styling a good run for their money)are easy to navigate through and don't try to lock you into itunes.

Ipods are great, I love their simplicity.

They just give you what you need with no f*cking about.

As for the ITunes, software I have been using it for over 3 years now and have never brought a single tune.

I use it to import CD, or import my digitalised Vinyl albums.

My only complaint with it would be that the updates or new versions it wants be to download come almost every week. It has got to the point where I just dont bother downloading the uptades any more.

Thats why I wouldn't touch an iPod with a bargepole.

My Creative Zen, takes music, video, pictures all in accepted formats. One piece of software, leaving loads of space for my stuff.I got 3 movies, 7000 music tracks, 200 photos and still loads of space on my 60GB drive, cost me well under ?200 as well.

True, very true Mell. I have had problems with I-Tunes and the updaters in the early days. I did an update to my IPod and lost my library. I did another update a few weeks on and my computer could no longer see my IPod.

For a few weeks I used an alternative peice of software that intergrated with my OS (Win XP) really well. It could see my Ipod when I-Tunes could not, though I did not like having to enter the names for all my tunes.

After I got that fixed with a load of buggering about, I-Tunes has been running sweet with few problems (touch wood). I'm not sure about all that extra crap yours had you install. All I had to install was 3 components, I-Tunes, Ipod Updater (now intergrated with I-Tunes) and Quick Time.

i went into add remove programs and found all those things...also loads of em id seen popping up in my firewall asking to be allowed through.

karingal yeah id have prefered a zen BUT ?200 is pushing it for me.....i found this nano on bigpockets for ?99.99....i could just about afford that.
but i knew id seen people had used ipods without itunes so made it my mission to find out how :D

When on the go I use a combination of Whistling and humming, no itunes lock-in.

seriously I never go anywhere on foot/pubic transport that give me enough time to listen to my Elvis CD collection
