Lords of Midnight was probably the most immersive game I got into on the speccy. Probably Everquest II (PVP) on PC...I broke the habit a while back tho.
I love Skool Daze. And yes, Viking Raiders was fun. I remember digging it up in a pile of tapes in an electronics shop near school, seeing it was a budget game and less than the ?2 that I had to my name and buying it :-)
I played Elite a lot too, one of my all time favorites. As well as Fighter Pilot (which actually had a decent flight model for the 8 bitters - it modelled angle of attack well enough that you could even do knife edge flight - i.e. roll to 90 degrees and use top rudder to keep the nose up). I don't think many flight sims in the 8 bit days had that sort of attention to aerodynamic detail.
There was a cricket game that I liked, too. Wish I could remember what it was - but I was in hospital at the time, and my Dad brought the Speccy in and I played it with other inmates on the ward.
I could never pick just one favourite speccy game. Games that I still play regularly on my emulator include; Elite, Starquake, Highway Encounter & The Sentinel.
