    BIGBIGBIGBIG.....

    Good shout.

Jeez I remember this, why on earth did a speccy game try to look like a blocky C64 one???!!!

Yeah, i know that Cascade 50 game! What's even more spooky is that if you reset the tape counter to zero at the start of the tape, the city bomber game starts at 911.

Really? Now that is seriously spooky!

Err ... not really ... it's not like tape counters are all universally the same.

    Kung-fu Master was pretty poor...

    Kung-FuMaster.gif

BMX Racers wasn't very pretty either, but as it was a 1984 game, it can probably be let off a little...

And of course, everyones favorite super hero...Superman: The Game

Although, I enjoyed this game as a kid. Once you've grasped the basics, it's a reasonably decent game I suppose!

Yeah, I just made that up.

I am surprised you have mentioned KFM,there is colour clash between the forground sprites when close but there is none with the sprites and background which looks quite good in my opinion.

And last night I was playing batty....maybe it's just me but having the bat as the same color as the background sucks and spoils it. /gets coat.
I'd tend to agree. On a similar subject I think the detailed backgrounds in Revenge of Doh were a backwards step after the much "cleaner" look of the original Arkanoid. Pretty silly when you consider how important it is to be able to make things out in breakout games!

    Brainache by Codemasters

Horrendous attribute crash. The game was pure utter w4nk. I mean why would you want to buy this game?

    BRAINACH.PNG

.. The loading screen shows some spaceman scratching his head. You would also be scratching your head (and not your bollards) after you have loaded this fecking game.

    _-Brainache-Spectrum-48K-_.gif

... Incidently, I read somewhere the author coded the game from data statements written in basic to poke the code for the game into memory because he didn't have a decent assembler program to write the game, so I assume after his brain ached after writing the bloody game, he wanted to make other peoples brain aches curtosy of attribute clash induced garish colours...

'Mrs Mopp'. This was the 2nd game I ever bought after I'd bought 'Trashman', had a wander round town looking for game number 2, couldn't find anything, then went back to the 1st shop and got this crud. God knows why I chose it, I must have been taken in by the cartoony inlay.

    MrsMopp.jpg

I tired to take it back next day and the shop boss was having none of it.

Nothing really bad about Mrs Mopp for me. It's simplistic but some kind of cute.

By the way, please notice that it's a game written by a woman :)

I wonder if there are any more games written by females on the Speccy?

If I remember correctly, Skool Daze (and maybe 'back to skool' and others Microsphere games) were written by a school teacher and his husband.

To be fair though, you could get some cracking Firebird and Mastertronic games for the same money.

Pitman 7. The inlay had me fooled but the crushing disappointment that was the in-game graphics is something I'll never forget.

However, I think Matt_B or someone has a soft-spot for it, if I remember rightly. :P

    It's definitely not me.

To be fair, the game was released in late 1983 when such graphics weren't uncommon, and less than half the games around had anything resembling proper sprites in them. I don't think there's any excuse for the appalling controls though.

Quite right. A search on the forums revealed that the closest someone came to saying they liked (to use the term very loosely) the game is Bluce_Ree where he says he remembers "not hating the game", which isn't the same thing admittedly. :)

Back on topic, Top Gun had utterly crap graphics IMO. I mean it's a license of one of the most iconic movies of the 80's! What were they thinking?? Worse, it never ran on my speccy+. I only played it on a mate's rubber keyed 48k. I couldn't believe I had spent a month's allowance on that pile of poo!

Mind you, it was just *slightly* better with 2 players but then that was probably because you were sharing the misery with someone else...

Cliff Hanger. Graphics seem to have been drawn with a ruler. I assume this is because the graphics are stored as vectorial, as in text adventures, but there is little detail and no colour at all...

And that came out in 1986! It looks like 1982! UGH! Truly ugly.

You would truly want a refund on that portion of your life after waiting for that screen to load.
