What Apple II games are worth playing?

edited May 2008 in Chit chat
You see, I got an Apple II emulator so I could play the Apple II version of Rescue on Fractalus(because I'm trying to play every version of it - the Atari is still the best), but now I don't have anything to do with it. I also got Karateka and Oregon Trail, but I don't know of any other games for it. It seems a waste to use it for only three games - do you guys have any suggestions?

The original Castle Wolfenstein and its sequel are worth a peek. There's also a version of Wolfenstein 3D for the Apple IIGS.

Wasn't there also that [strike]RPG[/strike] adventure where you were supposed to go through a castle, could pick up things to use elsewhere etc. Started out by a door and you had to light a torch in the first or second room. Sorry ... don't recall the name ... it had a very "windowsy" look about it though.

Wow, the Apple II had Pac-Man? I'm so surprised!

The Wolfenstein games were for the Apple II? Thanks for telling me.

And I don't care about GS games, as the GS was closer to the Macintosh.

I don't know what game you're describing, but it reminded me of Temple of Apshai. I'd been meaning to download it, but forgot. Thanks!

Interesting. I had always assumed that they were C64 originals, but the graphics on the C64 versions look VERY Apple II-esque. I'll check those out(not really, RPGs bore me to tears).

The only ones I can remember are the Infocom adventures but we already covered those in the C64 thread.

The Bard's Tale series started out on the Apple II as well. On the whole, I'm sure it was a pretty good machine to have if you were into strategy and adventure games, even if it soon fell well behind the game when it came to arcade action.

Shadowgate, I think. I have it for the Atari ST. Brilliant game. :)

Yep, great game. I've got it on the NES though, probably not half as good as the ST version. There's also a remake of it on the N64 which is meant to be pretty good.

Kemco did a couple more games like it for the NES too... The Uninvited and Deja Vu.

Is that some kind of joke?
