He had to retire sooner or later. I'll bet he's going to do a lot more TV work after his success on The Apprentice.

What's the general opinion of him on WOS? Is he hated because he bought Sinclair, or commended because he saved the company? I've got time for him - a real rags to riches story - didn't he start off by selling aerials or something out of the boot of his car?

Just looked his story up on Wikipedia. I know he's always been oppinionated and here's one of his more controversial quotes:

"Sugar has expressed anti-feminist views. Regarding the law passed in the 1970s in the UK which states that it is illegal for women to be asked at interview whether they plan to have children (on the grounds that it is discriminatory), Sugar is quoted as saying, "You're not allowed to ask, so it's easy, just don't employ them""

I don't mind him. Amstrad were fairly unimaginative with the Spectrum, but they had the sales nous that Sinclair desperately needed - although the PC200 was an abomination targetted at a market which didn't exist.

I've never really rated Sugar as a "big-time" businessman - his wealth comes from lots of little successes rather than a few big ones. And as the article says, he got most of his money through property, not business.

On the flip-side, he started with nothing and is now worth nine-figures. You can't help but be impressed with that.

You don't know how tempted I was to say that a few hours ago, but I chose not to.

he seems to be on TV quite a bit at the mo, not just his tv show. so i reckon he is going to be doing more things on the beeb.

How many of you saw him on Room 101? He seems a little one dimensional, socially a bit of a one trick pony. I don't see him becoming a great TV celeb unless he shows some more sides to his character. If he has them.

    "neWcASEtL aRe ShiT"

Local graffitti on the road near the back end of the Armstrong building at Newcastle College.

Circa 1997, but as far as I know it was still there and quite legible in 2002.

Dunno if it's still there now?

    Don't really care :D

I did, plus appearances on Jonathan Ross's Friday show. He didn't come across well. He needs a good scriptwriter and editor because he's crap on his own.
