The WOSsers put up a good show of skillful usage of Altavista and Babelfish (just joking, some probably speak it properly).

Are you gonna put in some Montezuma's Revenge as a souvenir too, Scottie?

Ok, you half got me....I do really speak a little Spanish and can cope in a short conversation but I also used Babelfish....just to help with the spellings and make sure that I was correct, of course

I've seen a funny site (can't remember the URL unfortunately) where they've superimposed sprites from some retro games onto photographs for cool effect (ie. a picture of a real racetrack with Mario Kart characters photoshopped onto it)......could be quite funny to do the same with a couple of Scottie's photos to give them the WoS touch. :)

I used to speak it properly, when I was a kid (my parents are Spanish), but I'm so out of practice nowadays. Went to see my family a few months back, and realised I'd forgotten so much. To top it all off, my family are from Galicia, and over there they don't speak proper Spanish anyway (they speak Gallego, kind of a cross between Spanish and Portugese).

"Salutaciones" is not the correct word. Use "Saludos".

"To be" may be translated into "ser" o "estar". "Estar" it's more like a temporary status. It's not easy to explain, but "son de puta madre" is not a correct sentence. The correct sentence would be "Est?n de puta madre".

Spanish is not as formal as english. Usually, we omit some parts of the sentences, and we prefer to use "t?" and "vosotros" instead of "usted" and "ustedes". In south america, they prefer "vosotros", "vos" and "usted".

The word for gonads is not "cajones", sino "cojones", "huevos", etc...

"?l" (He) is third person, first person is "Yo" (I).

Please don't say galician is like portuguese. At least, don't say it loud in Galicia.

I am spanish, from Pamplona. And I have to work, so no wonder why I'm not celebrating Sanfermines.
    I was there, too
An' you know what they said?
Well, some of it was true!

Lol ... when I said Montezuma's Revenge, I actually was referring to THIS. You got me thinking there would be a speccy game by the same name but a look in the archive was fruitless.

    Thanks for the curse.

My wife is now being generously revenged by that b******d Montezuma.

There is an old 8 bit game called Montezuma's Revenge and it WAS converted to the Speccy....try looking up 'Panama Joe' instead.....

(I knew what you meant in your original post though, nothing quite like a bit of 'Spanish tummy' )

Oh, in my Learning Spanish project I'm just encountering the difference between 'ser' and 'estar'. I _think_ I get the distinction, but I found some adjectives change their meaning depending on whether you use 'ser' or 'estar'... it's so confusing!

(I suspect there are many confusing things for people learning English, too).

The main problem I'm having with Spanish at the moment is trying to understand it when it's spoken, I still have difficulty telling where one word ends and the next starts, but I've only been trying to learn it for 3 or 4 weeks so I suppose that's to be expected. I expect there will be a few very confused conversations in my near future.

Truth be told all my spanish posts were made my the wife she is quite good. I am learning Spanish too like you Winston. I am being taught by the wife and by speaking to the locals.

I am currently in a cafe Puebla Mexico, a town famous for its colourfully painted pottery. Unfortunately I'm on my own the wife has been in bed since yesterday. Unfortunately not with me, but with that old dog: Montezuma.

I'm in the Caribbean, just thought I'd stick that in here since it's an active 'being somewhere else' thread rather than starting another :)

I'm in St Vincent and the Grenadines, Staying on St Vincent, and flying out with my dad to all the little islands that he's working on, doing a little work experience!

Go put a permanent stain on/in/around that fine Mexican china. It just proves the old adage "Even hotties get the squirts" ... with full respect to the hottie and her WoS-hubby.

Well I've been back in Mexico for a few days and I've managed to loose £600 of electronics in one night.

I went to a Cafe with a bag containing, A Digial Camera, Video Camera, Ipod and Tripod.

I left all this under my seat. Uppon leaving the Cafe I forgot to take it with me. Now it's gone. :(.

I have lost most of the Las Vegas / Grand Canyon / Hoover Dam pictures. The only saving grace is my colleagues were with me with their Camera's and stuff. Still I had some neat pictures to showyou that I now cannot.

For example I took a taxi to the Vegas sign and had the driver take my photo.

    Now it's all gone .... :(

I was planning to spend a couple of extra days in Washinton DC and North Carolina. Now this is not possible :(

    Nope no insurance. :(

I've been ripped off so many times with bad policies when trying to claim I just gave up.

After being on hold on the clams line for some 40 mins on an 0870 / 0845 14p a min line. You need to claim within 10 days of returning from your holiday, ok send me a claim form please. Form arrives on day 10 via 2nd class post, there is no way I can get it back within 10 days. I'm sorry you need to claim within 10 days, we take no responcibility for delays in the postal service. I'm sorry thats just the system, I can't do anything about that.

I could have fought it, but the hassle and lost time spent doing so often ends up more costly than not claiming.

Also when you loose items, they wan't the original proof of purchase etc. Wich as you know can be hard to find when you want them.

When leaving Barclays after collecting my Pesos they said do you want insurance.... I said no thanks I'm visiting Family, to palm them off. I'm thinking this time I should have taken it.

    Awwww......crap. :(

Even if you did have insurance though, it still wouldn't have replaced all the photos and footage that you lost.

As I say mate, I feel really bad for you, especially after the messing around I did at the beginning of this thread. :(

At least you've still got some stuff to look at because there were other people with you, so in a way, it could have been worse.

Can't think of anything else to say really :(
