Saxon

I think there are a few fans of this band here. They're playing here in Kilkenny on the 24th of this month and I'm wondering if they're worth going to.

Opinions please? :)

I wouldn't have said so, but that's cos' they were one of the bands my mother tortured me with when I was growing up.

if you like classic metal then id go (stuff like iron maiden, judas priest, motorhead, van halen, twisted sister, scorpions, ufo etc)
and if you like NWOBHM you should go more so :P

i have a couple of lps and 12"s by em

Definitely worth going to, it's not the completely original line up but Biff has still got it and is a great frontman.

Might also depend what sort of set they're doing. If it's going to be full of the well known songs you might be surprised by how many you know (wheels of steel, 747 strangers in the night, etc etc) but if it's supporting a new album prepare for confusion and indifference!

I'd go, personally, if a ticket was about a tenner (fat chance though) and the venue beer was cheap. Basic ingredients for a good gig, and Saxon have been around long enough to put on a good show (can't go wrong with the arnsley 'big tickler' after all).

Most bands tend to only play two of three songs from the current album so there should be no issue there.
Saxon do put on a great show so it should be enjoyable whatever they play.

Cool. Thanks for the replies. However (isn't there always one?), I looked up the gig info on Ticketmaster and it turns out it's not the proper Saxon, but a spin-off band that share the same name. Still might be worth going though.

According to THIS, there were some ex-members of the original band that claimed the rights to the Saxon name.
Maybe this was the spin-off band you saw ?
