Feud

The new version of Feud released in the TZX Vault update is exactly the same as the "different" version. Both files seem to have been created in 2002!

I checked both existing dumps against my original a few months ago. My copy matched exactly with the "alternate" dump. Seeing as I could not verify where the original dump of "Feud.tzx" came from, it was ditched in favour of the "alternate" version which was renamed to "Feud.tzx".

This was originally flagged up by Alexander on his redump page for re-examination, because the title screen was missing from the original Feud.tzx.

As a result, the "different" entry can also be removed from the record.

    Aha, okay. Now done!

Something similar seems to have happened to the "different" and v3 release of The Extricator, the two releases of Fat Worm Blows a Sparky.

On a different front, the TZX files for Lerm Tape Copier 5 and Lerm Tape Copier 5M are exactly the same, and the TZX files for Wash 'n' Slosh + The Colliery + The Scrapyard are just the TZX files for Wash 'n' Slosh and The Colliery + The Scrapyard put together in a zip file.

Many thanks for the info Phil, much appreciated. Your findings are indeed correct, but I'm wondering why. Fortunately I've got a backup of my TZXs from 2000 and before so I'll try and compare and find out why this has happened. I wouldn't have used Archive Info back then so Steve may have had a problem identifying the source. Hopefully we can reduce these occurrences by having more frequent updates, but we're only human and mistakes happen ;-).

Infoseek is fully populated for the "Wash 'n' Slosh + The Colliery + The Scrapyard" compilation.
Looking at the entries I'd say we drop the infoseek record for Colliery + The Scrapyard, The (id. 0011226) and remove the associated file. I imagine that the original submitter only dumped one side of the tape, hence the legacy file and record. We don't have an inlay for it, so I think it's reasonable to assume we can drop it.

With regards to Feud, looking at my older TZX files it was most likely originally submitted by me. The TZX I have lacks any loading screen, so I'll have to redump my tape to verify whether this is what's on my tape, or establish whether something was omitted during the TZXing process. I note that on the new TZX, the loading screen mentions "Crash Smash". It could be possible that this was added on a second batch run of the tape and is therefore an alternate release ?

I'm off for two weeks soon, so should be able to sort though my collection and double check the findings.

    Many thanks

Checking "Fat Worm Blows A Sparky"...... Indeed they are the same. However they differ from the TZX I did back on 27/03/2000. The WoS versions are 241% loading speed whereas mine is 180%:

    [My Old TZX]
1- A: Description: Created with Ramsoft MakeTZX
      2- 28: Program : FAT Length: 19 Normal Speed ,Pause: 0.976s
      3- 40: -------------------- Length: 112 Normal Speed ,Pause: 0.869s
      4- B5: Bytes : WORM Length: 19 Normal Speed ,Pause: 1.007s
      5- CD: -------------------- Length: 192 Normal Speed ,Pause: 0.263s
      6- 192: -------------------- Length: 49002 Speed: 180%

    [WoS/Vault TZX]
1- A: Description: Created with Ramsoft MakeTZX
      2- 28: Program : FAT Length: 19 Normal Speed ,Pause: 0.982s
      3- 40: -------------------- Length: 96 Normal Speed ,Pause: 0.437s
      4- A5: Bytes : WORM Length: 19 Normal Speed ,Pause: 0.964s
      5- BD: -------------------- Length: 192 Normal Speed ,Pause: 0.417s
      6- 182: -------------------- Length: 49002 Speed: 241%

The loading screen on my TZX draws from bottom up, whereas the WoS TZX draws from top down.

Again, I'll have to put it on my list of redumps to check whether there's anything to be suspect about.

    Cheers

Infoseek is fully populated for the "Wash 'n' Slosh + The Colliery + The Scrapyard" compilation.
Looking at the entries I'd say we drop the infoseek record for Colliery + The Scrapyard, The (id. 0011226) and remove the associated file. I imagine that the original submitter only dumped one side of the tape, hence the legacy file and record. We don't have an inlay for it, so I think it's reasonable to assume we can drop it.

I dropped the record (and file) as suggested.
However, it looks like the compilation was simply added with Side A and Side B as different entries. While Side B has now been removed, Side A, "Wash 'n' Slosh" might also be a "false" TZX file.

Okay, getting back to the Feud original release. I've just loaded my original in on my +2a, and can confirm that it contains NO loading screen. I would have bought this tape when it first came out, so assume it's the first release and that perhaps Steve's was a new batch run that included a SCREEN$ to highlight it got a crash smash. Monty on the Run also had an additional screen that indicated this too, so perhaps there's an earlier version of that too ?

The TZX that was removed was definately originally by my before I used Archive Info (as we didn't have the block then ;-) ).

It's up to Steve to verify the source of the replacement and that his original (assuming it was from his tape) contains such a screen. I'd say Steve's new version was the alternate or 2nd issue.

Feud on the "YS issue 58: Four Pack 1" does include a loading screen.

Wasn't there also supposed to be a Feud with 128k AY sound/music ? Perhaps the search is on for an Amroute/Zub like update ? Unless someone was confused with the CPC version that had sound by David Whittaker ? It's possible I guess.
