Mire Mare cassette case?

I'd been bidding on "6 Ultimate UPTG games cases, 5 x Spectrum, 1 x BBC" on eBay until Sunday evening, one of the cases seemed to be Mire Mare. The auction got to ?102 before the seller suddenly cancelled the auction 24 hours before it was due to end. Seller was "ultimart" and he/she listed their location as "Ashby-de-la-Zouch", mentioning the cases had some writing inside and "looked like promotional packaging". The date the auction started was 00:15 on April 1st :) April fool?

The auction was done very well for an April fool joke, it kept everybody guessing right up to the biiter and premature end!

I am pretty sure however (despite this auction) that some Mire Mare game boxes must exsist somewhere! The original artwork exsists and the game itself was almost complete when US Gold took the company over. Ultimate must have been gearing up for Mire Mare's release and so the manufacturing of the boxes may have begun. Does anybody know where the boxes were actually made? I doubt Ultimate themselves would have made them!

Just imagine obtaining the actual game and putting it on auction!!!

Yeah, it was well presented. I went as far as to scour the 'net for Mire Mare artwork and compare it against the one for sale at high magnification in Photoshop. I still couldn't tell because the photo had some lossy jpeg compression so even if it was a cut/print/paste-on-a-box job you still couldn't tell.

I understand the game itself was 95% done before US Gold wanted to put it on their budget label, perhaps it really was promotional packaging ... or perhaps it was just a fake. Worth the ?120 I had bid just to find out, in my opinion :)

The seller never did reply to my two mails, I'd like to know why it was cancelled; be it eBay cancelling, the seller cancelling thinking his joke's gone a bit far, or someone offering silly money for them to cancel the auction!

I wouldn't be surprised if it was someone at RARE who listed the auction, in a somewhat jokey response to the daft prices that Ultimate games get on auction.
