Assuming you are referring to the archive (downloads on FTP), we currently have 211,007 files available.

Does that include the files which are included in the ZIPped files? (Seeing as most(if not all) of the games are ZIPped and many have extra files lumped in together)

Martijn, BTW, did you get my e-mail a few weeks ago about Solar Jetman? I never received a reply from you.

The reported number is for downloadable files, not looking inside ZIPs.

That doesn't immediately ring a bell... I may well have missed it among the hundreds of messages, so could you please remind me?

OK, it was just that at the Pickford's softography page, where they list the games that they wrote:

    http://www.zee-3.com/pickfordbros/games/softography.php

they mention Solar Jetman for the ZX Spectrum

    "1990 - Solar Jetman (8 bit versions), ZX Spectrum | Commodore 64"

so I was going to e-mail them and ask them about it, and if they had a copy of it available, but I thought that it might sound a lot better coming from you, given your position in the Spectrum scene.

It probably won't come to anything, but it's certainly worth a try.

Ah, yes, that one. I believed to have answered you, so I offer you my apologies. :-)
I did immediately send a message to the Pickfords, but sadly didn't get any answer from them...

    Damn, a pity.

    Thanks for trying though.

Hmmm, or did you indeed get the only working copy, and are now going to sell it on ebay for loads of cash?

There are others far, far more in a position to comment on this than myself, but maybe what Martijn and ewgf are referring to is the preview that appeared in Issue 86 of CRASH:

    ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/magazines/Crash/Issue86/Pages/Crash8600010.jpg

    ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/magazines/Crash/Issue86/Pages/Crash8600011.jpg

Nothing mentioned about the Pickfords though, Storm are mentioned and a programmer called Tony Williams.

Those don't look like speccy screen shots, I'd expect something better from Ultimate on the Spectrum.

Maybe they were from an early version of the game? It's possible that the game engine (including the scrolling, the inertia effects, the game speed, collision detection etc) was produced first, and then the colour, sound effects and other details would be added later. At the time the screenshots were taken (assuming that they were genuine, and not just made up screenshots) then the programmers might even still have been considering how to implement the scrolling and colour, after all, if the game scrolled in character sized chunks (8x8 pixels) instead of one, or two, or four etc pixels, then the game could handle lots of colour without clash, and would run faster too, at the cost of being a little bit jerky. As long as the ship and gameplay was smooth then I'd have prefered the colourful, 8x8 scrolling, myself.
