Games featuring ancient mythologies

edited October 2008 in Games
Having just been to Greece (you probably noticed I was away), it got me wondering which games and text adventures were based on ancient mythologies.

We know a couple already, but there are probably more.

Do you mean Greek only mythology or any other one (Nordic, Celtic, Aztec, Egyptian ) too?

    Some games with Greek mythology:
    - Mythos
    - Ulises
    - Ares

I could think of some non Greek too if you need it.

Sacred Armour of Antiriad - seems to be based on a story in the Vedas. See Vishnu and his spaceships and suits of magical armour
I stole it off a space ship.

Bloody 'el! WoS search engine is pretty good. Didn't realise that you could search under headings like that.

    Wow, that went fast! :-)
    King Arthurs Quest.
Apart from this game, all of them received the tag. You see, for games featuring King Arthur, we have a different tag (as it played much later than the "ancient" ones): Arthurian Legends.

Any ancient myth or legend is allowed, not just the Greek ones (these just got me started!).
The three games you mention have thus been added. Please keep them coming! :)

But since the King Arthur legends are listed under Arturian since they are not strictly ancient, maybe Robin Hood should be listed under "Ye Olde Bullshit" :D

I wouldn't call Robin Hood "ancient", similar to the Arthurian Legends.
A new tag could be added for all games featuring Robin Hood, though.

The Arthurian legends are based on the same mythology as Dun Darach etc if you ignore the later Mallory influenced romance.

I'm sorry, but I don't really understand the implication of what you are saying (probably because I'm not British). Could you please elaborate?

The stories attributed to King Arthur are celtic in origin, the holy grail tales come from Bran the Blessed's travels from Wales to Ireland involving a cauldron.

Cúchulainn is pretty much the Irish hero in the same way as Arthur and Bran are the Welsh/English/Cornish/Breton equivalent, some of the same tales are told about all three. If it wasn't for Irish nationalism Cúchulainn would have probably been forgotten and replaced by Arthur in Irish retellings of Celtic folk tales.

Since Robin Hood is linked to the Green Man mythos which goes way back, it can be classed as ancient myth.

Is Robin Hood really that strongly connected to the Green Man? Cernunnos/Pan and all the other green men are really, really old and are often the male side of mother nature and the connection to wooded areas is strongly connected to Robin Hood but he was never really super natural in the same way that Celtic heroes often where and certainly isn't godlike like the Green man myths.

I think the connection between Robin Hood and the green man is probably another modern Victorian creation as the victorians romantised old legends for fun and profit.
