Your favourite Beatles song?

edited October 2008 in Chit chat
Many people say that the Beatles are the best group of all time, that they constantly rewrote the ruls of music, that their achievements will never be matched, let alone beaten, etc. I dunno if that's true (I'm no expert on music), but I do have a layman's view, and I think that they were great.

And my favourite song of theirs is Yesterday, with Let it Be a close second. They are both simple, but amazingly beautiful songs. And songs like We Can Work it Out, You've Got To Hide Your Love Away, I Feel Fine, and good old Help are so expressive of the feelings that we all go through.

I didn't like their more "experimental" songs, but then I don't claim to have advanced or insightful taste into music, so my opinion is maybe only valid for me.

Which is your favourite Beatles song?

Edit: Just wanted to add that Oasis are nowhere near their claim of "better than the Beatles". They aren't even remotely as good as the Beatles.

Tricky to pick out just one...maybe Drive My Car. It is a shame the stereo mixing is so dreadful on Beatles CDs, with the instruments often separated between speakers, as it makes it unpleasant to listen to them on your personal music player.

I wouldn't be surprised if one day all the albums are re-released in their intended mono format. Then later they can re-release them again but do a proper stereo mix. People will buy these over and over again.

We can work it out is one of my favourites. I dont like their experimental ones much either, actually prefer the Oasis version of I am the walrus.

Help is a great song but when i hear that i keep thinking of Banarama and French and Saunders which isnt good because of their version.

I'm a huge Oasis fan but i know theyre not better or bigger than the Beatles, as for their claim of being bigger than the Beatles they may have said that once as a joke in an interview but people seem to believe it to be true all these years later which is funny. John Lennon also spoke a ton of crap but thankfully people dont recite some of his silly quotes years later.

I prefer the Stones but the Beatles did so many classics. Just find the Stones much more cooler personally !

Maybe not my all time faves, but I'll always love "Maxwells Silver Hammer", and "Eleanor Rigby".

Not a Beatles tune but John Lennons "Working Class Hero" is a work of pure genious.

It's only been the last four or five years that I've got into The Beatles and I think a lot of their early stuff is amazing. As for my favourite, undoubtedly Let It Be - an amazing track that is in my all-time top 5. Although it never seems to get a mention I also really like Yellow Submarine.

I've never been a big fan of The Beatles, but I'd say my favourites are Eleanor Rigby and Helter Skelter. I really like Cold Turkey too, but I'm pretty sure that's a Lennon solo track.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps with Something a close second.

Did you know that the Beatles and Stones respective managements were in constant contact with each other to ensure neither artist released a single at the same time as the other.

how is this track 42 years old? can't imagine any of today's indie bands coming out with something like this.

pretty much anything off Revolver and The White Album

I prefer the early beatles stuff: 'I saw her standing there' is probably my favourite.

It is a bit of a shock how old some of this music is now. I'm going to admit that while I like the British bands of the sixties I probably like the Velvet Underground the best - their albums are worth a listen.

Good choice. For me that song's the antithesis of Lennon's hippyish, sentimental and more popular "Imagine". Lennon had some cracking solo stuff - see also "Nobody Told Me" and "Instant Karma". It really annoys me that when people think of Lennon's solo stuff so many think of "Imagine" which is so utterly simple-minded it's practically a children's song.

As for Beatles songs, I'll plump for "Eleanor Rigsby", "Helter Skelter" and "Back in the USSR" off the top of me head.

Beatles is what I used to listen to when coding. I think their songs have aged pretty well. My fav songs are Yesterday, Penny Lane, Norwegian Wood and A Hard Day's Night.

Oh I dunno, Lennon only managed to '80 before giving up the ghost, Macca has new stuff coming out still.

Live & Let Die is an excellent track (and one of the best bond themes).

Mind you I can't stand Imagine. That might be because it is still overplayed.

I'll go with either Paperback Writer, Rain, Here Comes The Sun (...I personally blame Cliff Mitchelmore...), I've Got A Feeling or anything from The White Album ... Blackbird, Julia, Mother Nature's Son. It's all good stuff.

After Let It Be my fave track is probably Hey Jude.

My favourite would have to be:

Tomorrow Never Knows : From the Revolver album which excellently pushed the technology of 1966 to its sonic limits.

But Lennon does have a very good excuse for that, of course.

It's a difficult pick, my favorite changes over time.

I think the Beatles were at their finest hour in the latter half of their existence, and most of my favorites are from that period.

    Probably my enduring favorites are:

    I'm So Tired
Revolution (the version on the white album)
    Elenor RIgby
    While My Guitar Gently Weeps
"The Medley" on Abbey Road (the mix of about half a dozen tracks into one 16 minute long section). I've always really liked this but it took on special meaning for me as it was the earworm trapped in my head, as I held my mother's hand as she died - so it always brings memories of my mum (not death bed memories).

I actually prefer the new version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps that was released on the recent "Love" album. George Harrison wasn't attributed to writing many Beatles songs, but my god did he write some good ones when he did.

there's an even newer 'version' of that by Wu Tang Clan, with George's son Dhani playing guitar on it.. its not all that great though.

talking of Beatles covers, my mum has got A CD of soul/funk Beatles covers with an amazing heavy funk version of "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" on it. I think I like it better to the original
