Oh no! (science fiction related)

Blakes 7, the best science fiction series ever (IMHO) is being remade:

This would be fantastic news if we could believe that they'd do it properly, but given the way they've weakened Doctor Who, my hopes aren't too high. And going from the concensus of web sites I've seen, it's going to be a remake, rather than a continuation - but they'll never get anyone as good for Villa or Avon as Michael Keaton or Paul Darrell.

BTW, if you read this Andrew (Owen), have you watched B7?

Who knows? It could turn out like the Battlestar Galactica remake did a few years back.

Could be good, hope its aimed at the 9pm market on TV rather than something for the kids, eg Dr Who which i'm not a fan of.

doubt it, it'll cost a bunch of money to make so they'll want a big demographic. not they they are out to make money, but big spends need justifying.

there's also the lucrative toys and DVD market.

Without spoiling it for people unfamiliar with the series: I'm at a loss how you might continue the original tale! The final episode rounded the plot off in pleasingly complete fashion IMHO... So if they must revisit it, a remake is surely the way to go.

I thought the new Dr. Who has been great.
You couldn't make Blakes 7 in the same way today as it was in the 80s.

At the end of the day, Old/New versions of Dr. Who/Blakes 7/BSG should not be considered continuations. That way you free your mind from saying "that's not right", every time a 21 century special effect appears.

I really enjoy the new Dr Who. It's the only programme we watch as a family, together.

It'll be crapper than it already was, which means it'll be ruined cos Blakes 7 was crap in a good way. I "that" good way so to speak, a remake will make it shite. Not only will the remake be crap, but it'll make the retro good crap of the original be just crap, and ruine it all.

    Ruined, I tells yer' ruined.
    Every night is curry night!
