Saint Etienne - worse than I remembered

edited November 2008 in Chit chat
Just got their "Best Of" CD - it's pretty much unlistenable barring a couple of tracks. I seem to remember thinking they were pretty cool back in the day. Strange...

You speak the truth Nick! they were seemingly very cool indeed - I think maybe the tracks "You're in a bad way" and "Who do you think you are" have stood the test of time well... the others were album fillers. Bob Stanley is an all round sound guy considering all his projects and stuff, but not an album band.

never a big fan of them though i quite liked their cover of "Stranger In Paradise" that they did for the Ruby Trax charity compilation cd

I always thought they were overrated myself. :-D

Still, there's no shortage of other bands who managed to build a reputation around a couple of songs. I thought about listing some, but I'd probably be here all day.

I love them, one of my favourite bands... Each to their own, I guess!!

I'm the other way round... I'm not so keen on the chart fodder, more into the "fillers" as you call them!! :-)

I was looking more than I was listening.

I also think they're a really great band. Their last album "Tales From Turnpike House" was a masterpiece.

    Erm... Kind of indie/ambient/dance/pop.

All About Eve were much better imo

    St.Etienne - shaven/trimmed.
    All About Eve - unshaved.

You know what I'm saying. I just listened to the best of Angelic Upstarts and I couldn't find one track that didn't make me cringe. Hasn't aged well that.
