Loading tapes on a ZX81

edited November 2008 in Hardware
I've just got a ZX81 and have a couple of game tapes, but haven't been able to load them successfully yet. I've done some searching online for tips, and so far have come up with...

- adjusting the cassette player's volume
- using batteries rather than mains power for the cassette player
- using a single audio cable (ear-ear) rather than having the mic-mic cable also plugged in

What other tips do people have?

I didn't know about those tips, but I usually use a Radio Shack computer tape recorder with the volume at about 80% and it works fine. I also use a walkman once in a while. :) Here's a few sites that might be of interest to you:

You may need to adjust the azimuth of the tape head with a small screwdriver. I used to do it by ear on my spectrum - just twiddle the adjustment screw untill you get the sharpest sound. I guess the zx81 is the same but I have no experience with it.
