Which Speccy game have you always WANTED to complete?

edited December 2008 in Games
Partly stealing the idea from the other thread about completed games, which game have you always wanted to complete since you were a kid, but never quite managed it?

For me it WAS Jet Set Willy but now it would have to be Head over Heels. Every few months I get the urge again and fire it up, only to fail miserably because I've forgotten how to do the rooms (without losing a life) that I'd previously mastered! I need to play it for several days straight, but who has the time?!

Still, I keep telling myself that one day I'll do it... :)

I've said it before, I'll say it again... Rockstar Ate My Hamster. Always wanted to see the end of that game, but it's just so... damn... hard!!

Not meaning to blow my own trumpet, but I generally finished all the ones I wanted to, and now I can't think of any I really want to. Not really that bothered tbh :D

I made quite an effort to complete some games this year as my completion rate is very low in general. Head Over Heals was one I wanted to complete and finally did it this year using the GP2x and save states. I also managed to complete Knight Lore and Atic Atac without save states.

I still would like to do Everyone's A Wally, probably with save states or even pokes. The problems to solve are often puns and are not always obvious until you look it up in the Tips Shop, so this makes it not much fun. I remember completing 4 Weeks In Paradise as a teenager and feeling immensely proud but I still got some tips from Crash or somewhere.

Skool Daze is probably a better target for me now that I come to think of it.

Yep me too. I did manage once to get to number 1 in the charts but didn't get the gold discs. I thought that was the aim of the game to get to the top of the charts? I must have done something wrong..........

You have to get 4 platinum discs (you would've got one for the number one). It's impossible, I've managed to get 3 discs but always get the third around November/December... there's just not enough time.

EDIT: Another one is Impossible Mission. I remember getting all of the pieces once and thinking "yesssss, I've done it"... then I realised that arranging them was the hardest bit!!

I also managed to get 3 discs. but playing it again recently, I'm not sure how I managed it. I can't even get one disc now. surely someone out there must have completed this game?!?

    also
    JSW
    Sabre Wulf
    Feud

Shadowfire - I managed to destroy the Zoff but never capture it...

Give My Regards to Broad Street - What the gibbering hell were you supposed to do with that console at the end???
  • edited November 2008
For me it would be Explorer, Terror of the Deep, Tau Ceti & The Planets because I always wanted to see the end of these near impossible games, anyone managed any of these ?

It's not as hard as you think. Once you've captured Zoff, just teleport any enemy attacking you to your ship - if you can't be bothered to kill all the enemy! :D

Ghosts & Goblins (The last bosses I seem to remember being too hard)
    Knightlore (only completed with POKE's)
    Cyber Run (Way too hard)

It's not in the end, but it is a lot of messing as you have to rotate and get the colours correct. Once you have them all, even if you have no idea how they should be aligned I reckon you could get them done within 20 minutes. Actually *having* 20 minutes to do it though is another challenge entirely ;-)

A great thread question BTW and my answer would be Knight Lore, and secondly Manic Miner. Never finished either of them and really not ever got close. I think my record on Knight Lore stands at around 30-35%; and MM I can't get past the Warehouse after 25 years of trying (albeit not that hard for the last 24 years ;-) ).

I'd definitely go along with Rockstar Ate My Hamster - always stuck on 3 discs

Heartland & Ranarama - came almightily close to finishing these (dying on final level )

    Doomdark's Revenge

I've had a good think about this one, and I've came up with a game I'd like to finish.

    The ridiculously hard Rigels Revenge!

Totally illogical puzzles that annoy you almost to the point of tears, and totally logical puzzles that won't accept the commands to solve them.

Probably one of the worst text adventures ever made, but it was spoken so highly of.

I feel myself becoming angry just by typing this up :D

Here is at least Tau Ceti in RZX-format:

Jumping Jack - I used to love that and always wondered how the full poem read!

    Anyone manage it?
  • edited November 2008
I don't remember if I ever finished jumping jack but I played it to where there were about 9 or 10 nasties onscreen at once.

It was ridiculous, there were so many holes that there was barely any floor left

    Lords Of Midnight....

For some reason, I've never completed this despite it being one of my favourites..I think I'll fire it up again tomorrow and try again...

That's the game i always wanted to complete. It was moreover one of the first games I ever played on the ZX, and I still play it, 24 years after. I hope i can complete it, but as someone said, I think that the last levels might be uncompleteable.

    Cheers!

If your struggling let me know.

Sorderons Shadow, I've got about half way through.
    Elite, This Man is Deadly.
Robin of the Wood, I got one bag of gold from the third arrow, but then found myself in an area of the map, stuck between two points where that lady appears and takes your money, it broke my spirit.

I spent ages trying to get out of The Great Escape, even with the tips in the mags I still couldn't do it. Man I must be really shit.

    Yes you are :p

Nah! just kidding, a load of the items are red herrings, and the actual solution is annoyingly simple. I'm just thankful the game lets you wander around so much beyond what you actually need to do. I still think The Great Escape was years ahead of it's time.

I completed HoH a few year ago with save states. I realised then it's not a large game by modern standards. I (or more likely, my parents, the main HoH players in my family) could have completed it back in the old days if save states had been invented then. Perhaps. Seeing the Emperor Blacktooth at the end of the game was a bit of a disappointment, have to admit.

Still would like to complete the Ritman/Drummond Batman game. The stumbling block I've always had with Batman is that the game's map isn't laid out that clearly, not as structured as Head Over Heels, so previous attempts I've given up on because I ended up going in circles.

It took me years to complete it as well. I eventually completed it after i read a tip section in either Sinclair User or Crash. I think you only need 3 objects (compass, map and German uniform) to complete it but it was years ago so that might be wrong!
Still a classic game. Never gets boring to play no matter how many times i play it.

It is completable. The RZX in the RZX Archive is done with rollback, so it is possible to complete without pokes.

Sorry for sounding doubly stupid - but what is roll back and what software do I need to watch the ending on your site?

    Many thanx

Rollback is explained here. Basically, when recording a walkthrough, you can insert a marker to "rollback" to, if you get in to trouble, so you can try again. It's sort of like saving snapshots when trying to complete a game, but without the saving :-p

To play back RZX files, use a compatible emulator such as Spectaculator or SPIN, if using windows.

Thanks very, I worked it out and just watched the vid! Whoever completed that is a true star - and lucky that they have mastered collision-detection avoison!
