That is so nearly what my ex flatmates friend shouted when they saw Noddy Holder coming out of a radio station in Manchester, except it was "Steve, there's that **** from Slade".
  • Not many, and just as well cause I get too nervous

Miss Iceland and World 1985 Hofi Karlsdottir
    Henrik Larsson (Celtic and Sweden)
    Patrick Moore (Sky at Night)
    John McEnroe (Tennis)
    Danni Minogue
    Errol Brown (Hot Chocolate)

..and a few misc. footballers in nightclubs.

Meeting Patrick Moore..that was a REAL pleasure. Lovely man. Miss Iceland was unbelievably beautiful.
I stole it off a space ship.

He was someone (of the few) 'known people' I did want to meet at some point :( oh well.

Regarding who I have met, in the very early 90's where I used to work, occasionally I'd go to the localish chipshop for lunch and on at least two or three occasions over a year or two I happened to see Kevin Lloyd ('Tosh' from The Bill) in there, although I never spoke to him. It was not far from his location though anyway (where I worked) , as an aside it was a lovely chippy too!

^ That would of been late 1990 to early 1993 roughly.

Saw Jeremy Beadle many years ago too in Skegness I think it was (I was only about 8 at the time) although he was surrounded by a crowd of people from what I recall. Not what I would call a 'meeting' though more a 'sighting' , was definitely him I'm almost certain.

    I think that's about it.

  • When I was a bit younger I use to religiously attend the Birmingham NEC AutoCar show. Here you meet and chat to many super stars of motor racing from F1, Rally, and Touring Cars etc. The first year I attended I had a long chat with Derick Warwick who was there with his Vauxhall Vectra touring car team. Great bloke showed me around the cars explaining differences with the road car etc. I also met Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve that year. I also got the chance to get Murray Walker's autograph at one show. I cheekly greeted him by saying "Hello young man", bit rude when I think back to it now, but Murray took it well and burst into a fit of laughter before replying "Nobody has said that to me for a long time".

  • Back in the 80s my best mate's family knew someone who was a BBC TV producer who managed to wangle us a private guided tour at TV Centre in London one day. We were allowed to sneak in to the back of some of the studios while they were actually filming shows including Blakes 7 and To The Manor Born.
Didn't get to actually personally meet any of the stars though...

In the late 90s while in a notorious nightclub in Dublin I bumped in to Ian Botham and Graham Gooch, who were drunk and getting very friendly with a group of young ladies half their age! @-)
  • I randomly met James Hetfield - lead vocal from Metallica - about a month ago on the street. We chatted about 10 minutes. An opportunity completely wasted on me since I'm not a Metallica fan, lol.

My step brother roadied for Metallica for years. He told me that James Hetfield was pretty cool as was Jason Newstead. Kirk Hammett was the quiet one and Lars Ulrich was a grade-one dick, particularly to Newstead, who he had an inexplicable grudge against for taking over from Cliff Burton after his death.

  • David Bellamy on the platform at Durham station.

Douglas Adams at Forbidden Planet - He stayed well past his scheduled time so that everyone in the long queue could get their book signed. I don't usually tell people who I really am, but I did rather want a first edition of the paperback for "Life, the Universe and Everything" with the ring-pull cover dedicated to C.C.Moundshroud, so ...

Kate Bush on the set of "The Big Sky" video - A group of us were being shepherded by the producer - "Go here. Go there. Sit down. Stand up. Quiet! Sustain 1st degree burns by holding a lit cigarette lighter for 2 hours. Move back a bit. Not that way!" ... On bumping into someone behind me, I turned to see a lady helping a small person wearing a silver jump suit to get her huge amount of hair to fit inside a leather flying helmet ...

A long time ago, in a galaxy ... Hang on! No. That one wasn't me! Although I was in the U.S.A. in 1977 and decided to go and see this new movie directed by some guy I'd never heard of - and found myself totally engrossed from beginning to end. I've still got my original U.S.A. release of the double-LP sound track which I went out and bought the day after seeing the movie.
  • Met Edward James Olmos, Sir Patrick Stewart, and Bruce McGill. Had a chance to talk, get a handshake and get an autograph with each one of them. Two of them were at a screening of an old movie that had been restored. One of them just walked into my store to buy a phone accessory.

Also had a chance to see Nichelle Nichols in person at a Star Trek panel in Anaheim, California, but didn't get a chance to talk to her.
  • The only person 'famous' who I've actual sat and chatted to was Chris Curry.
I seen loadsa famous, being a comic con goer, but never really spoken to any direct. I'm not daft enough to pay their extortionate prices for a bloody photo and autograph. ;)

Listened to the Bionic Man (Lee Majors) chatting about his career this year, that was a highlight.
    Sod it!

I haven't met many... I've met Iggy Pop and his band, the Ozric Tentacles (had a smoke with them too), erm, Frank Bruno, Jimmy White (really nice bloke), Jonathan Ross and David Prowse. I shook Jay Kay's hand once, but it was from the front row at a gig, I didn't actually meet him as such.

I've met a few more since this post!

I met Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Teri Gender Bender at a Bosnian Rainbows gig, John Gourley and Zach Corruthers of Portugal The Man, I met Donovan (as in old hippie Donovan, not Jason), David Freiberg of Jefferson Starship, and I met the surviving members of Newcleus a few weeks ago. :)
  • I met Chris Barrie at a memorabilia event a few years ago. He was very nice. Saw Tom Baker there too but didn't speak to him. Also met Walter Smith when he was Rangers manager a couple of times, and he was always very gracious.

Not met but I've seen out and about Mark Hately, Claudio Cannigia, Robert Carlyle, Jessie Birdshall, Simon Pegg, Richard Aschcroft, Todd Carty Ex-England keeper Chris Woods, Richard Gough, and Peter Mullan.
  • Met Cyrille Regis just before the 1982 World Cup when WBA played a friendly against Dudley Town FC (friend was club secretary so managed to meet a few players).

Tony Godden (former WBA keeper) watched an inter-school cup match I was involved with. Came over to us at the end of the match and said I was the best crosser of a ball he'd ever seen, which was rather nice of him (IIRC we won that match 13-1). Unfortunately I didn't grow up to be David Beckham...

Met and spoke to Matt Murray (former Wolves keeper) and got him to sign my nephew's boots. It was an inter-works match played in the Molineux stadium and he was handing out medals at the end. Really nice bloke and was amazed that my nephew remembered him - he was my nephews hero for years, so of course he did! That's my single claim to fame - played a full match on a Premier League pitch. I hadn't played properly in ten years and was sh!t!
  • Met Liam Gallagher a few years back in Accrington of all places as they were shotting a video. Top bloke, friendly as anything, had a good chat with him, he liked saying hello to my dog who was with me. Came back out and signed autographs, total gent. Always heard hes great with fans, its just the press he hates.

Somewhere I've got a photo of me with Professor Heinz Wolff, when he was giving a talk to the kids at the National Space Centre (Leicester) on the same day we were doing a LEGO show. Nice bloke and a big inspiration to me long ago, so it was great to meet him. Sadly only a few years before he died.

A long time ago I bumped into Bill Oddie in the aquarium in Hunstanton, but my brother pointed out he was with his family and probably didn't want to be hassled. I played a game of Virtua Fighter against some bloke in the Trocadero in London back in the 90s, who some kids pointed out was MC Hammer. I may have expressed some disbelief and so drew unwanted public attention in his direction when he was just trying to play the game...

Another LEGO show we did for the 'Star Fleet Ball' sci-fi convention was a bit odd, where people heading for the luxury spa in this big Southampton hotel had to elbow their way past overweight sweaty Klingons. Terry Farrell did an open Q&A and I was thoroughly impressed with her professionalism - answering the most ridiculous and esoteric questions (from the sort of people who can't tell the actor from the character) with near-infinite patience and politeness.

Amused last year when the waiter in the Gran Aladino in Corfu told me there was someone famous in the restaurant. This confused me somewhat. Clearly my view of this 'famous person' must have been obstructed by the bass player from Smokie. I now wonder if I should have asked if he could get me Roy Chubby Brown's autograph...
(If you really want deperate, apparently Terry Uttley wrote their song 'Mistral Wind' about the Corfiot coastal village of Paleokastritsa (twinned with Skegpool). You can find it on YouTube, and it's as dreadful as you might imagine).

That's weird! I was driving about in my Spitfire many moons ago..and this guy in a black car almost crashed into me. we stopped for a second..and it was Walter Smith apparently..anyhoo..just waved and smile at each other and drove off.

I seen Claudio Cannigia with his family in town one time. Seen Richard Gough too. Dave 'psycho' Bowman..seen him in a pub.

  • Working at Chiswick / Ealing, many years ago, was quite interesting. I walk passed Kate Humble, saw Amanda Redman in W H Smiths and watched James Bolan moaning at the man in the ticket office at Gunnersbury Station.
    Sod it!

  • Marillion bassist Pete Trewavas parked next to me when I was parked in a car park in Aylesbury a few weeks ago, also seen him at BB's in Aylesbury having a coffee with his wife.
Saw Marillion guitarist Steve Rothery looking at guitar magazines in WH Smith in Aylesbury, also seen him In Costa in Aylesbury having a coffee meeting with someone.
I wanna tell you a story 'bout a woman I know...

I met the youngest man to walk on the moon today, Chars Duke (Apollo 16). He came to my campus to do a talk. He was also CapCom during apollo 11 and was the one to radio the famous words "Roger, Twank...Tranquility, we copy you on the ground. You got a bunch of guys about to turn blue. We're breathing again. ...:
