I love it!

Seeing it on YouTube doesn't do it justice...

Yep, took me straight back to 1984. I had to dig out all my Frankie 12"s and giving them a good airing.
I wanna tell you a story 'bout a woman I know...

I like the deliberate use of brands that are no longer with us - I noticed Our Price and Wimpy (although I know Wimpy has had a very limited return). Any others?

Yup it's a really cool ad.

The other one I like at the moment is for the VW Golf where that guy is fighting himself.

All it needed was a bunch of Casuals outside Our Price, in Tacchini Tracky tops and Addidas Ivan Lendl Trainers.

I wince every time he gets hit in the shin with the brake discs (and the excellent circular bruse when he gets hit end on with the exhaust pipe)

Wasn't Ourprice one of Richard Bransons comanies?? It was neat to see it back.

We've had a Wimpy in Dundee since 1991ish. It's never closed and never changed. Okay so it's in a bowling alley, but it's still there and still branded as Wimpy.

    I miss Our Price.
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

I was going to comment on the Wimpy, the only fastfood place that actually gave you salt andvinegar for your "Skinny Chips". Used to like the Wimpy Bender, but was always too embaressed to ask for it "Hi there I'll have a Wimpy Bender", the possibilities for double entendre are almost endless.

The last Wimpy in Newcastle finally closed about 6 years ago I think, and I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. It was actually a Wimpy diner though, you sat inside and they actually gave you your food on plates, would you believe it?

Yeah Our Price was a quality shop, bought De La Souls 3 Feet High and Rising there in 1989, still got the tape back in England.

I think I bought Rage against the Machines first album there in 1993 as well.

    Oh memories.

Wimpy never left, they just aren't the mainstream like they used to be, you'll find them as franchises. There's been one in my hometown now for decades.

theres still a wimpy where i live. the 'our price' shut, it had still been a record shop ever since.

i'm sure the wimpy franchise don't even try to compete with maccys or burger king. they will just be a little franchise restaurent buisness these days like 'merry england' or 'beef eater' you see them about, but you want be force fed their shity adverts every day.

i think maccys has a winter menu out at the mo. i mean come on its a cunting burger, it can't be seasonal.

Yeah, I almost wet myself the first time I saw it.

There are a couple of other New York Pizza adverts running:

    and

Actually, I've seen a lot of good adverts on Dutch telly, they definitely push the boundaries a 'bit' more than they do in the UK. :-D

Anyway, back on topic (sorry Nick ;-) ) - that Virgin ad is excellent. It's lucky the guy at the beginning didn't drop that phone on his foot - I think it would've required a trip to casualty...
  • edited February 2009
Yup! Them Zak Morris phones hurt, I had somebody throw one at me once, nearly knocked me unconscious, and I'm not actually joking there :D

Yes, there was certainly a connection, and I think they were ultimately taken over by Virgin Megastores.

I wish big hair would make a return. I must be the only man alive who still thinks it looks great on a woman.

AAAGH! Scottie what are you doing?

That was an awful image from my younger days that I'd forgotten about!

Now all I can think of is Funhouse :(

....with those twins who everyone used to think were fit, but in fact were pig ugly! We all know Mr. Sharpe was banging them as well, he was just too touchy feely with them to not be :D

Ha! The ASA has received 29 complaints about the ad - for being sexist!

The complaints were rejected, showing that there is some sense left in this country.

Good about time somebody resisted those mullet headed veggie burger eating hat wearing militant she-men

It actually shows that there is SOME less freedom-hating liberal idiots who hate you all and want you as weak and as self-loathing as possible.

    Has it worked?

Apparently it's less sexist to depict the Virgin cabin crew as a bunch of munters.

Less sexist and quite possibly, more accurate.
