It gets worse

edited February 2009 in Chit chat
Regular readers will remember I was diagnosed with avascular necrosis last year and spent nearly 2 months off work after the surgery to fix it. Well the operation was a success - the blood supply was restored. Only problem is the hip is now riddled with arthritis and its rogered (polite term). I've been told I now need a ceramic on ceramic replacement. Can't say I wasn't expecting it, but for a chap in his 30's it's not good news. On the brighter side after its done I may not have to live on painkillers. I'm on 3 different kinds at the moment and they don't mask the pain.

Anyone got any experience / knowledge of this type of hip replacement?

Some loud mouthed arse I knew when I worked at smiths got a hip replacement, he was off for a week or 2 but when he came back he only had a slight limp (which got better over time).

Of course since he was a loudmouth I got my own back on him a treat and gave him the nickname Steve Austin.

    He was not amused ;)

2 weeks? Crumbs from what I read I could be in hospital for that long and off for another 10 weeks after!

I dunno if it was exactly 2 weeks, but I know he was off for less than a month.

Another person I know who's had a hip replacemant was a teacher at my school and....er.....hang on no you don't want to know about her.

My best friends ma apparently had the op last year, and she was laid up for quite while, but apparently she's fine now.

It's gotta to be worth it to get off long term pain killers, those things can be evil.

A work mates wife is waiting for the consultants to make a final decision about a hip replacement, so I'm glad to hear of somebody having success with their hip work

BTW are you any relation to the Mr Cheese of the old Digitiser teletext pages ?

So do I! I'm seeing the consultant again in about 6 weeks to discuss the operation and then I guess I join the queue to have it done so its a while off, but I would suspect (hope) this year. I may get my life back!
