funeral of a biker fried in Bedford today

edited March 2009 in Chit chat
A member of my bike club died last month. His funeral is today. I'm off in just over an hour to meet up with club members. Pete was also active in the IAM, British Legion, Serv etc, a large turnout of bikes is expected. The open to all celebration of life has been postponed by the family due to the large numbers expected. It's possible it might get on the local news.

Sorry to hear about your mate.

But think if that does go like you say it might, his friends and family will know he went out a very well liked man.

    Peter Cox M.B.E 1953-2009

Killed instantly in February when riding his Honda Pan European, having just completed an overtake, he hit a patch of black ice, and hit an articulated truck coming the other way.

He was active in many organaisations, I.A.M Cambs, S.E.RV, British Legion, Oakley MCC.

15 members of my club met this morning, with a rider from Bed Bike Safe forum, and met up in Sandy with bikers from all the above organisations, and other bikers who knew him. Traffic was brought to a standstill as several dozen bikers escorted the hearse the few miles to Bedford crematorium, where an honour guard from Army Intelligence, led by a bagpiper carried his coffin into the building, flanked by standard bearers from the army and the legion. Standing room only, lot of people huddled in the foyer, listening on the tannoy.

I didn't know Peter all that well, but the few times I met him, I was impressed by his warmth and enthusiasm for all things bike.

Service finished with the last post being played by a bugler.

That is very sad news indeed, and I offer my most sincere condolenses.
I've know a few people who had motorbikes, most of whom have had accidents
which resulted in them not riding again. They were the lucky ones I guess.
One of them skidded on some oil on the road and the handlebar went through his foot :-o
The irony is that he was fined for clean up costs for his blood on the motorway, how crap
    is that.

I think it's amazing when you're going up and down the motor way and a flock of bikers pass by, it's unreal, but it always makes me smile, that they're living the dream.
