Repairing a Spectrum is expensive?

hello. A friend of mine has a 58k(rubber keys) spectrum but doesn?t work.
We doent know what the problem is. When you try to turn on the computer nothin happens. Except when the other day a short buzzing (1second) was heard.
My question is: Is easy, and cheap to get such a computer to repair to a general technician, or on the opposite, the reparation can be quite expensive and worthless?

Thanks

It doesn't sound like anything obvious; it could be the CPU, the ULA, or any of a number of other components on the circuit board. Unless there's something special about that particular computer it's probably cheaper and quicker to buy another one off Ebay than it is to get it repaired. A lot of the components inside are obsolete now and the easiest way to source spares is to dismantle another Spectrum.

Things like face plates, keyboard membranes and +3 drive belts are relatively easy to get hold of for DIY repairs but something tells me that your problem lies elsewhere.

DEATH normally offers to swap a dead board for a working board, he can then fix the dead board at his leisure or use it for spares to fix other spectrums. Better than throwing the spectrum away.
