+2A problem

edited March 2009 in Hardware
I decided to turn on my real Spectrum hardware to play some games on a real computer. Went to the basement, took Spectrum +2A from a box and turned it on.

I can't make it work however. After computer is turned on, something appears which looks like a kind of diagnostic test. There are vertical, colorful bars. There number 1987 is writeen in different colors on them too and there is a contant repeated beep.

How do I exit this test? My keyboard doesn't work.
Or is something wrong with the computer?

Sounds like a stuck keyboard. the test card usually appears when you hold break down when resetting or turning on.

Try unplugging the keyboard ribbon (carefully!) and then turning on.

If it works then, it could either be a duff membrane (Has it the speccy been stored with things pressing down on its keyboard?), or the break key is stuck down (Which can be popped out and the spring stretched slightly.

Thanks, the computer is working now.

There was a lot of dust, hair and lint between the springs and the membrane. When I cleared it, everything worked.
