Recently acquired divIDE 57c

edited June 2009 in Hardware
I recently got hold of a divIDE 57c (whilst waiting RWAPs divIDE plus to materialise...)

I have installed the interface and powered up my zx spectrum + but I do
not get a divIDE log or any FATware (as advertised pre-loaded)...

When I press the NMI button the zx spectrum will just reset with no logo
except the default Sinclair Research. It is as if there is no firmware
loaded into the divIDE.

Could this have been sent out with no firmware loaded...?

I have spare EEPROMS. So is it worth changing the EEPROM and trying to flash some firmware to it or do I need to have the GAL chips programmed as well ?

Any advice would be appreciated,

Steve Storr

Have you checked the jumpers on the DivIDE?
Your DivIDE is done! Just prepare one jumper (it should be a part of the kit, if it's not, take it from some old PC).
Put the DivIDE to the Speccy and turn it on. Don't insert a jumper.
    The Spectrum should boot normally.
If the jumper 'E' is inserted, you will get attribute chaos after switching on.
Load up the firmware from tape or from PC (e.g. FatWare, Demfir, MDOS3, etc.).
Make sure the jumper 'E' is not inserted (You will need also jumper 'A' inserted only if you have ZX Spectrum +2A(B) or +3) and press any key.
The BORDER will flash for a while and then it shows up a message, that everything is ok. INSERT JUMPER 'E' NOW.
    Switch off the Spectrum.

Its a Divide 57c from my auction on Ebay (bugaj2005) ? If yes write to me via Ebay and i test it and replace if you need.
For zx spectrum plus, check jumper position.First jumper must be in close position.Check a condition edge connector and sometimes spectrum plus don't recognize divide. I have one zx plus who don't recognize divide, i change cpu and now is working with my speccy.

Maybe #14 in the HowTo helps in case there is no firmware at all?

Otherwise surely velesoft can give some advise.

And sometimes spectrum plus don't recognize divide, i don't now why, but when i change CPU in my zx plus divide start working.

Try a couple of OUT commands to see if paging in some divIDE RAM pages successfully crashes the spectrum.

Last couple of pages from the divIDE Plus user manual may help:

The other possibility (and IMHO the most likely one), is that your Spectrum has a faulty M1 line. The DivIDE can't see instruction fetches if the CPU M1 line is not working correctly, and therefore won't page the ROM on reset or on NMI.

If it were paging the ROM on reset, and there was no firmware installed, you'd get a screenful of vertical stripes - not a normal reset.

    Zaxon,

It's not one of yours...though I have recently ordered a spare one from you.

This one is from Noby at divide.cz.

Many Thanks for your replys and advice. I will clean up my edge connector and check my M1 line etc etc failing that I'll grab another spectrum from the loft !!

    Thanks again All,

If you have dead M1 line then DivIDE can't connect external memory with FATWARE OS. You can test from BASIC if FATWARE system is in eeprom chip installed.

Write basic command OUT 227,128. If DIVIDE logo will show on screen then FATWARE is in eeprom. If none, then eeprom is clear... = need reflash system:

Your DivIDE from NOBY contain new R"GAL chip with 16kB allram mode support !
