Codemasters Vampire - missing?

edited July 2009 in Infoseek database
Discussed in this thread, Codemasters released a game called Vampire, that does not seems to exist in the WOS archive. Is it known to be "missing in action"?

I do not have any original material on this game myself.

IIRC it appeared on one of their Quattro tapes.

    [utl=http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0011332]Quattro Adventure[/url]

The listing there says Phantomas 2 instead of Vampire, but if you look at the inlay it does have Vampire.

The screen on that page (the animated gif) looks like one of the screens on the inlay you posted. And I do recognise the top screen being the screen$ of Vampire on the Quattro Adventure tape.

Looks like it's just been mislabelled as Phantomas 2 in that collection and it does indeed need an entry of its own.
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

I have the original release here. Single standalone, not part of a compilation.

It's listed on WOS as Phantomas, which is actually incorrect. The game I have is a modified version of Phantomas, with different sprites (but similar room layouts). The loading screen is the same.

It does have "vampire" as a re-release name ... [strike]but it's not popping up at all :-( [/strike] (I take that back)

Re-released by Code Masters Ltd (UK) (as 'Vampire')
    EDOS (UK)
    Serma Software (Spain) (as 'Vampire')

Yes, Codemasters re-released it, but if you have a copy of Phantomas 2, you do not have a copy of Vampire.

    Look at this screenshot:
    Vampire.bmp
You can see that the main sprite has been changed. The title screen (appears after the loading screen) has been re-done, and there are other cosmetic changes throughout the game.

Fair enough ... TZX it and keep aside until "they" give permission for distribution.

Before that happens, Dunny should PM me his TZX so I can make a map of the game ...

Phantomas 2 and Vampire does also have very different inlays, with the Vampire one from the clive.nl site, and the screenshots visible on the covers seems a bit different if you look at the status bar.

From the WOS Phantomas 2 page there is a link to the Vampire name, but it does not seems to work?

Hey, this thread is also being discussed here!

Phantomas 2 was a game released by Dinamic , and rereleased in the UK by Codemaster with the name Vampire. The only thing Codemaster changed was the sprite of the character (Phantomas).

    Cheers!

    Someone else thinks otherwise.

I could but the Phantomas games are pretty crap in the main, this one being a real turkey to be honest - it's shit. Worst ?1.99 I ever spent! Anyhoo...

    Here's the loading screen:

    Vampire_LS.bmp

    And the title screen:

    Vampire_TS.bmp

    And the main menu:
    Vampire_MS.bmp

As far as I understand it, the WOS entry about these games/variants is not correct.

If Phantomas 2 was re-released under the name Vampire with a new cover, some new graphics and sprites, should it not have its own game entry?

On the Phantomas 2 page there is a link to "Vampire", but the link is not working, it just goes to a search for anything called vampire-something.

    • Should a rerelease with a different loading screen have a different entry?
    • Should a rerelease with a bug fix have a different entry?
More generally, there's a continuum from things which are obviously the same game to things which obviously aren't, and this one's probably in the grey area somewhere in the middle.

I agree that this game is the grey area, but I do think that when we have some kind of access to the alternate cover it would be good if it were archived and not lost.

Apart from what Phil already explained:

The link is working. If you click it, you will find Phantomas 2 itself in the results as well.
Of course there's really no reason to click that link if you already are at the right database entry...

If you look closer at the entry, specifically the "Additional material" section, you will find everything we have (including the Codies inlay). Just like any other entry with re-releases.

Or am I overlooking something else you were trying to find?

Yes, you are right, it is there already. Thanks for clearing that up.

I was mostly confused from the beginning when I tried to search for a game called "Vampire" mentioned in some thread here and I could not find it at all.
