My GF has been made redundant, and she will have to sign on at the end of august, she will have to get a housing allowance.

i tend to spend most evenings at her house, but someone told me that i could only spend 4 nights there a week or i'd have to declare myself a resident, which sounds daft if i pay for my own place too.

does anyone have any experience of this?

i will have a look at the relevant webasites but i imagine the info on them wont be great.

Seen that happen on lots of those programs about Benefit Cheats (not saying your missus is one). If you're there a lot and are working she then wont get any money (or much) for her rent as you're obviously there and are in employment.

Hopefully she'll find some work by the end of August, still a fair bit to go yet. Been made redundant 3 times myself, not nice (specially the first time it happened) but just have to be positive and I hope she finds something before Aug

So the government expects me to pay for her rent? what do i pay my taxes for, when i'm supposed to help out the jobless from my own pocket? what a fucking joke. :-D

But if you are there most of the time and you are working then why should the government pay for her rent ?

Anyway theres lots of time yet, just under 2 months, thats long ! Its like she expects not to find any work ! She 'might' find a decent job soon with better pay perhaps and then its all happy as larry.

But theres no way someone on the dole could get housing benefit when their fella lives with them the majority of the time and is working. I mean surely she would move into yours instead ?
  • edited July 2009
Can she not come around to yours instead? That way she can claim for her own and you're both laughing??

IIRC when i was with my ex.... you cannot stay there more than 3 days per week, and also I believe that the 3 days cannot be consecutive... so its one day at her's then one at yours and vice versa..

If you break those rules then her benefits may be stopped and she may have to pay back some benefits... Be careful, the benefits office can be quite strict and nasty about all this.

Best thing to do is go into the local Jobcentre and check with them. Usually, most of the people in the JCs are pretty decent to talk to, at least they are where I am, :)
    So far, so meh :)

Don't wait until August before going to the JC - She should go straight away as she is entitled to JC from the day she lost her job.

They will be reluctant to back-pay anything she is entitled to.

Schools? Hospitals? Police? Fire brigades? Libraries (book houses)? Roads? Pavements? Cheese? Take your pick - you can only choose one!

shame i can't spend more time there, but i suppose that means she can't spend time at my house as well?

which if thats the case, then i might as well find a new GF, cos i'm not gonna be able to go back to being on my own at the weekends.

Why not? You're only spendings evening together. 3 days at your house and 3 days at her house alternating and go out for the evening on the 7th...
I wanna tell you a story 'bout a woman I know...

quite far, 15 quid return on the train. which i spend everyday (well a weekly pass) but thats her dole money, which would last long i guess.

gah i don't know who to be angry at more the government or her for wanting to do a job she is qualified for rather than going for some shitty office job.

i would never break up with her, i'd just pretend i'd been killed or something. just get my mum to give her a call.

mum 'hi kelly, listen myles has just been killed, don't bother coming to the funeral cos there isn't gonna be one, there wasn't much left of him after explosion, anyway gotta go.

    she's an angel my mum

I'm confused by your lovelife, i thought she was a nurse or was that the ex ? Or was that a girl you worked with who you were just 'friends' with ?

she's not a nurse, i've never been out with a nurse, i used to go out with a physiotherapist. i do work in the NHS, which is where the confussing is prolly coming from. i am 'friends' with some girls from work, but they aren't nurses either.

    Go with this option.

You could then "leave" her some money in your "will".

    LOL!

Be careful. There are some people on this board that might be offended at that!

NOT ME! OR MY IMAGINARY WIFE!

Or her lesbian friends - which we have parties with. All the time!

    I'M NOT GAY ANYMORE!

You should have said you were a sheep, or a small bovine animal - you'd have got GOLD membership.
