Who reads comics?

edited August 2009 in Chit chat
At the minute I am reading:

Transmetropolitan
The Boys
Dangergirl
The League of Extraordinary Gentleman 1900 Volume 1

Hoping to get onto Sandman when I finish Transmetropolitan.

Anybody else read comics?

The PSone version of this is cack :D

Like a poor mans Syphon Filter.

Last comic I read was either Aliens Hive, or Akira, probably back in about 1994.

Excluding the Viz I suppose, I have an annual from chrimbo which my ma sent me from blighty which I am yet to get round to reading.

I bought a copy of Viz recently for old times sake. That's about it.

I wait for the paperback collections rather than buy yer actual comics, but yeah there's a few. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is generally good, I've just caught up with all of Preacher... oh, and Transformers! Not the old comics either, the current run from IDW that started in 2006. Good fun :)

I've been catching up on Frank Miller. I tend to buy the trade paperbacks though. I'm contemplating buying the collected Buffy Season 8.

Am I the only one who still likes Disney's comics? I'm talking about Carl Barks and Don Rosa's work.

I still collect Marvel comics from the 70's & 80's. Still trying to finish my collection of The Thing's "Marvel-Two-In-One".

Also, trying to get from ebay, the classic Defenders and Avengers war.

Secret Wars! I had all 30 (or was it 31?) of them, and the Secret Wars II 9 comic mini-sequel (which was pretty crap tbh), and I gave them all to my little cousin on the condition he kept them in good nick.

Within 2 weeks the little bugger had scribbled all over them and ripped them to pieces, I think he may still have some scars on him 22 years later just to show how angry I was

League of extraordinary Gents is very good isn't it.

Kevin O'Neil's artwork always reminds me of broken glass. He did fantastic stuff for 2000AD during the Torquemada / Nemesis years.

Scott McCloud does some good stuff too.

I sound a right nerd, but I have wife & kids: honest.

    Marshall Law was great also...

I also enjoyed the Marvel Zombies comics... At least up until Marvel Zombies 2, where

By far my fave artist is Ian Gibson (Robo Hunter / Balad of Halo Jones / also done some Star Wars stuff).

Bought one of his signed prints last year and swapped a couple of emails: nice feller too.

In contrast to Kevin O'Neil's broken glass style, Ian Gibson's lines are almost musical.

    Saying far too much now.

Does anyone remember those war comics you used to get for about a pound? I can't remember the names of any on them though but i remember the back page used to have a big picture of a dagger on it (was it called Commando?) You used to find them in news stands in the newsagents. My dad collected these and had about 100 in his collection.

I used to have loads of Commando Comics and Battle Picture Library and War Picture Library comic books when I was a kid. This Pocket Library Publications page shows a selection of titles. I have no-o-o ide-e-ea whatever happened to mine.

Being almost unemployed now, I've had to cut right back on my comics buying, so I just read a handful of titles, mostly ones I've read for many years. The post-Bruce Wayne Batman, and Batman & Robin, have possibilities; then there's Justice Society; and I'm looking forward to the new Doom Patrol series.

I've read Doom Patrol since before they even had their own title, when they were just a backup in My Greatest Adventure. They've been through numerous incarnations since then, even though they all got killed 40 years ago. Plus the new series has a Metal Men backup story, another of my long-time favourites.

I'm also sticking with Incredible Hercules. I first picked up on this title when it tied in with World War Hulk a while ago, and stuck with it as it doesn't take the genre too seriously. I'm also getting the revived Incredible Hulk #600+, but that's just because there's a She-Hulk backup and she doesn't have her own title at present. Then there's the fantasy romance adventure manga Oh My Goddess!, currently on volume #32.

And that's pretty much it. Oh, and I just happen to be selling on eBay at present some of my (mostly) more violent comics which I'd probably be disinclined to read again; eg. Bomb Queen, Fear Agent, Midnighter. There's some Buffy there as well (seller: xju94h76).

i get all my g/ns for free from the library.

you have to take them back though.

They do great big thick collection of Commando titles now: loads of places sell 'em.

Starblazer used to be a favourite of mine back in the early 80s.

Until recently, I kept a miniature copy of the Dandy comic that Golden Grahams gave away years ago in my wallet. See here - http://www.tobyspage.com/dandy.html

I also have all (and the only) 15 issues of the comic Scream (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scream!) that were published back in the 80s.

They're all collecting dust in the garage at the bottom of me garden. I really must take time to finish scanning 'em one day.
