And to think, him and others like him fought to preserve our way of life.

Wonder what he thought every time he saw a chav or bald headed Mitchell-a-like?

He saw the sort of action that would probably make these hooligans crap themselves!

    Eleventy-one years of age...blimey...

Those proud heroes. Now, no one will march at all.
I stole it off a space ship.

    R.I.P. Harry...

He was the oldest man in Britain as well, a title he only had for a week after the death of fellow veteran and RAF man, Henry Allingham...

    He a true hero.

I don't think he liked the limelight much, and he didn't speak about his ordeal in the trenches until when he was past 100 years old as it obviously had a massive impact on him.

    He later apposed all wars,.

I see that cretin Gordon Brown made a speech in honour of him, although this useless prime minister doesn't really give a toss about our squadies - they still get sent into battle with insufficient equipment, and are later chucked on the scrap heap when they are no longer wanted. It a bloody disgrace.

May I just say that I'm a 6'2" 18 stone Mitchell-a-like ....and am an extremely proud and patriotic free Brit....

[edit] ....this rant went on, and mentioned the length of both wars.

    ;-)

Eeek ! Noooo! Not Eastenders! (aka: Deadenders!)

    Ricki Ricki ! :-)

Phil Mitchel always sighs at the end of each sentence, why does he do that? It's annoying, and it almost like he sounds nakered all the time when he does it.

...No I not watch that awful BBC1 soap to observe his mannerisms, but saw it on 'Harry Hills TV Burp' where they took the piss out of him :-)

Sigghhhhh.... Come on Bianca... Get me a f*ckin pint... Sigh :-)

... Oh and i'm proud to be a Brit too. Despite this crap government, we still live in the best country in the world for being patriotic, although I still think our national amthem should be 'God Save The Queen' by The Sex Pistols. It's more rockin' :-)

Good rock song for our WW1 hereo's would be a song called Paschendale by Iron Maiden. It appeared on their Dance of Death album, lyrics are here:

    http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Paschendale-lyrics-Iron-Maiden/91512C01863BE9D048256D3C000DCFF3

It sums up the fallen heroes from WW1 perfectly...

I think the national anthem should be re-written and have the word god removed from it, imagine how many hippies, atheists, and muslims it must be offending, and while where at it we'd better change the white on the flag to grey as well, wouldn't want to upset every colour that exists, nobody has grey skin so it isn't better than anybody else. I suppose while we're at it though we'd better remove the red incase it offends native americans, better change it to green, although no? If we make contact with planet Venus sometime in the future we may offend the natives, better strike blue of as well incase the neptunians get offended too.

Infact lets just have a grey flag, and a series of non-specific beeps for the national anthem, that way nobody is offended by anything, and we're all misrable.

    Happy uniformed conformity :D

so in a good 90 years the last soldier from the iraq war will pop his clogs. no doubt we will still be fighting a pointless war somewhere.

This was sad news. But one he had a good run. A special thanks to Harry and all those who went before him. I've got several of the Forgotten Voices books covering the First World War. Very moving reading indeed.

It's very sad, especially coming so soon after the death of another long-lived veteran of the Great War. RIP.

Muslims aren't going to be offended by the word "God"; people often forget that Jews, Christians and Muslims all worship the same God, they just don't agree who his messenger was. :-P

As for the national anthem, it should be changed but mainly because it's really slow and dreary.

Yeah! I just included Muslims since they seem to get the blame for everything these days.

He probably is, due to the enormous amount of thought required to deliver the required line in a coherent manner.
