Very sad news; he made some classics in the 80's although he was far from being my favourite director. Surprised he was only 59 - far too young.
Breakfast Club, Planes Trains and Automobiles and Weird Science are undoubted 80's classics. I'm one of the few who detested Ferris Beuller though - purely the main character - I always though Ferris was a smug twat who deserved a good kicking!

Damn, horrible coincidence. Had my mum visit today and we talked about old movies and checked out a Planes, Trains & Automobiles trailer online ... later on I watched Home Alone. This is almost disturbing. I swear I am not making this up, I just found out about his death reading this topic here on WOS.
What a shame. He was involved in a lot of movies that I have very fond memories of. A stupid heart attack ... must be such a bad way to die as it comes out of the blue, and 59 is not an age anyone is ready yet to shuffle off this mortal coil :(
Really sad to hear that. I loved Ferris Bueller's Day Off and watched it so many times I could recite every line in the film. I never saw The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink or any of his earlier teen films for some reason though. I think now is a good enough reason to do that.
The Breakfast Club is awful. Pretty in Pink is even worse (except for the song).
Bueller is great. Oh yeah.
Gaah you just trying to be controversial I hate it when people do that. Its not big and its not clever :p. Breakfast club was a great film. As was Bueller as was 16 Candles.
I remember watching National Lampoons Vacation as a kid and loving it, I tried watching it again last winter. I was with the wifes family in Alabama and insisted it would be a good family watch, totally forgetting that Chevy effs and jeffs all the way though it. Anyhow the film has not aged well it was awfull.

My fave was certainly weird science movie. It made nerds cool!
Quotes from film:
'I never toss off, never!'.
'By the way Gary, why are we wearing bra's on our head?".
Weird science eh ... I think I have last seen that 20 years ago. Wiki article says it got Private Hudson aka Bill Paxton in it too, think I'm gonna watch that online later.

Not controvertial, just my opinion.
My wife wanted to watch Pretty in Pink a few years ago, she'd never seen it. It was even worse than I remembered. I just hope it's my last viewing. My wife thought it was crap too. Pointless and unfunny, no redeeming features...
...except the soundtrack to Pretty in Pink is ok. Breakfast Club only has Simple Minds on it that's any good.
I watched The Breakfast Club and Pretty In Pink over the weekend, finally. Pretty In Pink was okay I suppose but the soundtrack was brilliant, whereas The Breakfast Club was such an awesome film. Ally Sheedy was amazing in it. :D
Now I have to get Weird Science and Sixteen Candles.
Urgh ! Shame, i do wish stars would grow old gracefully. One of the worst things are collagen implants, i mean her lips when she was younger were superb, she was known for having a great set (no rude comments !). Not like she needed them pumped up.
But now, just ridiculous. Its like Leslie Ash, she was a stunner back in the day and tons of blokes liked her, then she stupidly got her lips done and you know the rest.
Ironically its not lads mags every month slating the way these women look and saying theyre ugly/aged etc, its the womens mag having pictures of them the second theres a line on their face or a bit of fat on their hip etc. No wonder so many girls are paranoid about their weight/looks.

Blimey!
Rest in peace!
Ferris Bueller's Day Off & Breakfast Club are ace.
RIP John Hughes.

Pretty much exactly what he said!
R.I.P.

That's because they have Molly Ringwald in them.....and she's a ginge :D
But anyway R.I.P John he was involved in some classic stuff!
Lea Thompson for 80's red headed hottiness!!
EDIT : Forget that actually, Lysette Anthony now I come to think of it...
Who is that then?
EDIT: Googled... not bad at all.. :)
She played Michael J Fox's young mother in Back to the Future. The one that fancies him when he goes back in time.
EDIT : Google Lysette Anthony - even better!!
Ooooo, she just does have that naughty/dirty/kinky look...
but that wa sin the 50's she'd be in her 70's now.
Sit yourself down Miles...
Get a cup of strong tea...
Back to the Future.......wasn't real! It never really happened...I mean it wasn't a documentary. It was people lying to you...
