Dreamcast

edited September 2009 in Chit chat
Can anyone reccomend a reliable dreamcast repairers? I've got 2 out of 3 that have defective drives. One spins up and loads now and again and one that won't at all. Can't remeber but one of 'em will load if you flip it on it's lid.

I've only got one that loads and me and the eldest have to fight over it (she hasn't realised I've nicked it out of her bedroom ssssshhhhh!)

I think there's a way to correctly re-align the laser but it's purely a trial and error process. There's a few sites that shows you how to do it. Maybe that could be the problem. And once mastered can easily be re-aligined. Hope that helps.

You could try Telegames based in Leicester. They've been around for donkeys years (I bought my imported Jap megadrive from them in '89) and still stock old consoles so they may be worth a try.

Surely cheaper to buy another off Ebay than get it repaired no?

But...I've bought lasers only off Ebay before for like $11 with shipping.....but again...you can pick DCs up for $10 or so...

Maybe he wants to play PSO on it. In an utterly retarded fashion you can only use your characters on a specific VMU on the console the save files were created on, so if you switch the console you are f*cked.

Ah yeah, good memories of the DC. I liked it a lot. PSO was the first proper online game I ever played at my own home (not counting trying out stuff like CS at friends' places) but it wasn't very successful outside of Japan, where it was quite big.

I remember when the DC ended its commercial life so early as it had well and truly lost to the PS2 and was on its way out, some stores were flogging all the equipment to clear their DC stocks. Picked up a bunch of Sega controllers for 5 ? each, 3rd party VMUs/Rumble packs for 3 ? and the DC mouse for 10 ? ... think the huge joy board also was 10 ? ... nice bargains. Games were also damn cheap on the whole.

Best thing happend probably in about 2002, I went to some kind of small Dreamcast forum gamer meeting with only a few dozen atendees in a nearby city, and for some reason a woman affiliated with Sega turned up - don't remember any details about that affiliation, but she gave out copies of various games (Crazy Taxi and a few others) as well as the Dreamcast keyboard - for absolutely ZILCH!

I've been told you can tweek the frequecy of laser that may do the trick

    I've got 3 dreamcasts
    1 keyboard
    1 mouse
    1 lightgun
    1 tv lead
    1 scart lead
4 joypads each with a vmu and rumble pack
loads of games I love shmups especially under defeat

(keep it under your hat I've got half life as well)

I've got a Saturn as well with a scart lead and 1 joypad with the extra memory cartridge and a few games. It was left on a doorstep for two weeks in a row in the snow, one winter. The next time we emptied the bins my mate had it away then gave it to me.

It's the same way I built up a lot of my speccy collection (I daren't list what speccy and 64 stuff I swapped for a pc engine and both parts of r-type) you wouldn't beleive the amount of sinclair and 64 stuff that was being dumped around 10 years ago.
