Bloody hell it worked I was expecting the "Nelson Haha!" again (which I've not yet fallen for yet, but did click on on purpose one time to see if it did what it said on the tin)? Or a video of you shagging a box of Rice Krispies whilst repeatedly stabbing a bourbon creme with a Curly Wurly dipped in beeswax? :D

    Oh, I see.

The boy whom cried wolf syndrome.

Will anyone ever trust me again?

EDIT - and stop clogging up my bandwidth!

JSW in 16K (Well, 8788 bytes, to be precise) might not have any ropes or sound, and there would need to be a few other cutbacks. Oh, and as mentioned before I expect the stairs wouldn't work very well either because the lazy so-and-so would get bored with it and move on to something else. On the plus side, I estimate he might be able to incorporate 38 screens, not 37, though perhaps that's a little on the optimistic side.

Further, I imagine the author might see it on his hard drive a couple of months later, and decide to upload it, warts and all. If such a program were to exist, the URL could possibly be something along these lines:

    http://rapidshare.com/files/322687515/JSW.tap

Other than that, I couldn't possibly comment. Anything else would be pure speculation.

Just out of curiousity? Did you recycle Area 51 to make this? Which leads me onto another random question was area 51 the starting point which lead you to put PGD together?

It's not authentic, it uses "exclusive or'd" sprites and doesn't have a really slow pointless LDIR screen copy to slow things down.

Not bad enough. Make it badder.

    Do it again.

Oh, leave him alone! Give the poor lad a break. He's just a bit of a kid - a few more years, he'll learn! :)

He's only better than me because I didn't realise this was a competition.

Now that I know that is, I just can't be arsed!

If I was gunna remove 'a friend' it would be you. But I quite like having a little pet running around that I can kick every now and again to release the tension!

    I quite like it :D

I know memory is going to be tight, my only small ideas:

A small sound when collecting an object would be nice.

One thing I can't work out, I used Spin 0.7 to play, I cannot seem to speed it up (setting at say 175% seems to make no difference, just to this game) :-?

I think I may have to have a look to work out how to apply the usual "fall any height" poke though.

Yes, it's the Area 51 engine reworked, because that game didn't take up too much RAM. Area 51 was originally a 7-screen platformer written in just under 4K for the 2004 minigame competition, so it made the ideal starting point. Andrew Broad has the source for JSW 16K, so when he puts it up on his site you'll be able to see the similarities with the Area 51 code, which is already in the WoS archive.

PGD has little in common with Area 51, in fact it was written earlier. Much earlier, in fact. Most of the code was written in 1995, and finished off in 2003/4 when I rediscovered the source on an old floppy.

This 16k version of JSW is quite good, I set about having a proper go about half an hour ago, and I've discovered 2 bugs. They both occur in the same room, Ballroom East.

After making my way back from the off license I decided to go up the stairs in hall so I could go and get the item from the front door. Willy gets stuck in the floor above his head as he enters Ballroom East on the upper level from the hall. This can be remedied by pressing jump though and he'll end up where he's supposed to be. The second is it seems impossible to jump over the barrel. Instead you just fall on top of it almost like the jump goes down instead of up, no matter how close you get to the edge this happens, and you can't hold jump down to get past either.

...and here was smart arse here thinking he was going to finish it on his first go ;)
