Charlie Brooker's Gameswipe

edited October 2009 in Chit chat
Did no one here see it? I don't think the Spectrum's had so much screen time in... well, ages.

There's a review of it by your's truly here:

fancy graphics and a “good” (ie sub-Hollywood-B-Movie) storyline. Brooker’s dismissal of the new Wolfenstein in favour of the 1992 original because the latter is a bit more, well, fun was a perfect case in point. Who cares about the protagonist? Who cares about what blokey has to say about the super nazi-gun? Just get on with it! This is a game!

I really liked Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and if you bothered with the barely hidden at all easter eggs, there was a lot of humour in there. Seems a shame that Wolfenstein has taken a step in the wrong direction from the sounds of it.

As for Dara O'Briens moan about unlockables, I agree. I've mean moaning for years that "boss levels" are an old tired, worn out idea, that are little more than choke points ruining games. Doom 3 is my Gears of War there.

I remember buying Gran Turismo and being annoyed that I couldn't play a lot of it, cos I couldn't get the driving licenses. Driver on the PS1 got a mention, but that had a tricky unlockable right at the beginning, though that was do-able once I had read a simple walktrough.

    "Games-wipe", it's kind-of a spinoff from Screenwipe.

Is this a series, or a one-off for this BBC4 season?

A one-off. But there might be the possibility of more, next year.

Thought it was good, but seems unlikely to be made into a series.

I'd completley forgotten about the Micro Live program. As soon a I heard that music again, I was taken right back :D

Very good program, but that presenter gets on my nerves after a while.

I hope you are referring to that Ian McNaught-Davis bloke, and not Fred Harris (or the luverly Lesley Judd)?
