kasabian

edited October 2009 in Chit chat
earlier on I flicked on the telly and saw these guys doing a song on jonathan ross. when they finished jonathan ross got all excited and went "WOCK....AND WOLL. WOCK AND WOLL!!". but they are probably the most boring band I've ever heard. they're like a really bad version of Oasis circa 'Definitely Maybe', but minus any tunes, and minus the swagger. and this is indicative of 99% of new 'indie' music I hear today...

Is it my rose-tinted spectacles, or were the 90s really a lot better than what's going on now? I'll add Kaiser Chiefs and Kings Of Leon to that list. It's all a load of tuneless trendy crap.

bands from the 90s (and previous) like Sonic youth, dinosaur jr and Polvo are still putting out albums that put any new stuff to shame...

I think when it comes to indie stuff 89-91/2 is the best stuff, Blur before they were trendy, Charlatans, and the verve the first time around (a bit like that T-Shirt Student Grants mate used to wear), Inspiral Carpets, Ride, and all those other bands with really bad basin and Beetex haircuts.

The Britpop era was an embarressing time full of hanger onners, comeback cases, and boring shit. There were a couple of OK bands popped up late 94-ish before it got completely saturated, but otherwise...ARSE!

...and as for now well you said it yourself.

Nevermind the 90's, the 80's was the era when it really rock and rolled (erm... aprt from maybe the 70's)...

I watched tonight with Johnathon Ross, but turned off as soon just before musical youth came on.

phew, glad you agree. that was a really drunken rant by myself though, I only just remembered I posted this thread, lol.

Flaming Lips are another band from the early 90s that still make good stuff. I heard a new track off their forthcoming double album on radcliffe + maconie radio show the other day and it was really good.

I was looking at their new album today and will get it soon. I'm also looking forward to hearing the new Echo & The Bunnymen album.

didn't know they'd reformed, could be interesting. not a massive fan of echo + the bunnymen but bet it will kick 7 shades of shit out of any 'new' stuff coming out.

barney sumner from new order also has a new group called Bad Liuetenant, and I've heard a few good tunes from them...

I loved the 90's for music, we got away from the crappy Stock Aiken and Waterman and finally had bands who played live/sung live and wrote their own stuff.

def chris - Have you heard any Kasabian albums ? All 3 are very good and their latest album (the song they performed is the opener) is excellent. Seen Kasabian twice and theyre very good live.

Why are they the most boring band you've heard ? Compared to Coldplay, Kasabian are exciting as anything !

Compered to coldplay, being forced to play renegade 3 for 12 weeks is exciting.

i disagree with adding kings of leon to the crap list, i quite like them, i love their last album, different from the same old same old bands.

Kasabians first album was very very good, liked the second but the third is much better. If you listen to all 3 albums theres a lot of very good songs on each. But never heard of them before being known as 'boring'. Kings of Leon's latest album is very very good, but sounds odd, because more 'mainstream' people are into KOL it puts me off them a bit !

Preferred the previous 3 albums, some of which sounded more 'raw' (specially the first). The latest album is much more commercial and its a shame when some people finally jump on board on the 4th album ! Been listening to more early KOL than before.

Yep. I remember Warrant doing 'Cherry Pie' and the audience threw cherry pie at them. Surreal.
First time I saw MSP was on there and I think Nirvana as well.

Yeah Nirvana was on it, very good they were, first TV appearance of Oasis as well. The live bands they had on were pretty good back then, now a boyband in sight. Thought Terry Christian was very good, perfect host for that crazy show.

Always hoped there would be a 'best of' dvd (i know some people might say the dvd would be blank !) but that show brings back some great memories

Ahem ! Yep ! Keyboard let me down but my fault for not checking !

Miles - Yeah i remember when Emu attacked Snoop Dogg, very funny. Remember Terry Christians interview of Marc Almond as well, made me laugh.

The 'i'll do anything for tv' had a lot of sick things, still remember the guy snogging the granny, yuck.

tbh no i haven't, pretty sure I've heard all their singles though. I just don't like them. as i said though, this thread was a bit of a drunken rant, I wouldn\'t normally start slating bands that I personally happen to dislike...beer + posting = rarely a good thing.

I can't really talk anyway, there's heaps of embarassing rubbish that I happen to love (quite a bit of 'hair metal' for e.g.)

Theyre a pretty good bad, got some decent tunes. Cant stand it when bands say stuff like 'Jonathan Ross 2009, hello England...' type stuff, i like to think theyre doing it to take the mick but who knows !

If you want an embarassing performance you should have seen Robbie Williams on sunday during X Factor (Was forced to watch it due to the missus), just cringeworthy

I quite like all 3 Kasabian albums. I have never seen them live, though I'm told they are very good live.

I've never heard anyone refer to Kasabian as boring, people seem to like them or hate them end of, but I like stuff like The Strokes as well which a lot of my mates think are very boring.

If you've heard only their single releases then I'd suggest getting your hands on their albums and skipping past the singles and listen to the other songs on them..."Me Plus One" off the album "Empire" is a personal favourite.

The Word was an excellent programme, apart from Katie Puckrik (or however it was spelt) for some reason she used to get on me tits!

Didn't L7 do a set on The Word and the lead singer whipped her kecks off (which was a common thing she did apparently) and did it, errrrrr, kebab out so-to-speak?

Yeah never heard of that group before but they were quite funny as obviously they put in quite a controversial performance !

Good shout on me plus one, thats another one of my favourites. Also like Stuntman

Perhaps the original comment about Kasabian was because most of them just stand there and dont move around. I dont mind that at all, i start to cringe when lead singers/guitarists start doing 'dad dancing' like Chris Martin does.
