Weird Home Made ZX81 Keyboard spotted on Ebay.

Just spotted this on French Ebay, from my (very) limited French, it seems to be a ZX81 board in a home made keyboard.

I think he says something about there not being two in the world. This then is R@re .

That looks like something out of a Russian nuclear power plant.... not that I'd know, I was told an Etch-A-Sketch has more controls than anything in a Russian nuclear power plant.

Were these custom-built '81 houses a common thing back in the day? In about 1984 or thereabouts I remember going to a friend's house and he showed me a computer his dad had apparently brought home from work, it was a ZX81 but it was in a proper plastic house like this with fully-moving keys. I suppose these were the kit versions?

Yes they were rather common at least in NL, no they were not necessarily kit versions.
What the home-built had in common were gigantic dimensions. I have not seen a wooden one for a long time now.
Here below a laughter proof ZX80(!) extended with a non-detachable true type keyboard.....

This kind of gear probably is the reason why the space invaders wanted to attack us in those days.
