+3e and Fatware

Hi,

I divided a CF to 2 partitions, one (the first, 200MB) was formated for the +3e and the second (1.8GB) is FAT16. (connected on the divide)
I can boot the new menu of the divide, but it seems that the Fatware can't 'see' the 2nd partition (it reports that 0 volume found)... demfir works ok..
is there something that can I do for this or its a 'bug' of the Fatware?

I presume you partitioned using CF to IDE adapter plugged into PC IDE connector (this is necessary coz windows see's CF cards as removable media).

First partition should be an extended partition (for IDEDOS), the second primary partition formatted to FAT.

Check you format your CF card FAT partition from the command line using the following command:-

    Format drive: /FS:FAT

(Where 'drive' keyword in the above example is the volume name of your FAT partition on your CF card).

In older versions of ResiDOS it were necessary to install fatfs package to be able to read FAT partitions. Newer versions of ResiDOS have FAT support intergrated.

Notes regarding filesystem compatability with Divide Plus:-

    1) +3e cannot access FAT partitions from +3 dos.
    2) +3e IDEDOS and FAT volumes can be read with both fatware and IDEDOS partitions (if you can't read FAT volumes under ResiDOS check to see if you have the latest version).

    Useful tip:
Garry's documentation regarding creating a shared IDEDOS and FAT disk requires some guesswork to work out the start and ending cylinders of the media when partitioning, which is why I recommend:-

    http://partitionlogic.org.uk/

Partitionlogic is a hard disk partitioning tool (available as live cd or bootable floppy). What makes it handy is it gives you the start and end cylinders of each partition, making things easier when you come to format the IDEDOS partition.

    ....
First partition should be an extended partition
    ...

    arghhhh... Both were primary...!!

Thanks!!! I just fixed it , I was 'lazy' to delete the partitions etc etc .. so I set the flag of 'Boot' on the second (I use the gparted on Linux and the CF was connected on a USB adapter) and now I can access the CF on +3e IDEDOS and Fatware !! yea!

    Thanks again,
