Anyone missing BBC1 & BBC2 on Freeview?

edited November 2009 in Chit chat
In the north west region, BBC2 has been switched off today on analogue. As part of this, we've been advised recently that a retuning of Freeview boxes may be necessary.

Sure enough, BBC1 and 2, amongst others are now not available. They are still not there even after a channel scan. I've even done the first-time set up again and no luck.

Anyone else getting this? It's not that old a Freeview box, 4 years tops, with a HDD recorder.

Yes. I have a Humax PVR and the same symptoms.

ETA: That is to say, they're in the channel list and get EPG info, but no picture/sound.

Got them working by deleting 1 & 2 and doing another rescan.

They're not even in my channel list, the first in the list is 3 (ITV1). Can't browse to 1 or 2, and also BBC News (channel 80).

What transmitter do you use, I know someone in Lancashire who's lost all their analogue this week and have a lousy digital signal so now can't get ITV and CH4
It also looks like their transmitter will be switched off ENTIRELY in December no digital either :???:

with "set-pal" boxes it'll mess up .. I had that ages ago with a sagem box.

the transmitters don't support it now, so new box is needed.. what a con

they were doing the updates partly for HD as well

that's what happens when you standardise on an encoding method that's already been obsoleted before you've even sold any receivers...

    Yes, me also.

You are going to have to do a reset and rescan as all the terrestrial channels are going off-line and die sometime in December, and move around loads in the digitals.

I can't wait for the new output - it's going to be BRILLIANT!

Oh no, wait. It's just as sh*t and worse than it ever was! Bugger!

slightly off topic.. but I wonder what is going to happen with cars.... I mean the FM transmitters are supposed to go off also.

I have just bought a 59 plate car, that has an FM radio in it also (and no I'm not loaded.. scrappage scheme )

it's like they plan on.. hold on.. if we sell them FM radio's.. we can re-flog them DAB ones a year or 2 down the line..

It's the Winter Hill transmitter, and on 2nd December all analogue telly services are to be switched off.

According to a post in this thread I may have to get a new frigging box:

"Yup, that's the biggest part of this change - Mux 1 / BBC A has switched from 2K to 8K and this will mean some boxes will no longer get many BBC channels. Simplest answer to most "no BBC" posts will be - buy a new box (or even worse, a new TV!)."

As I said before, it's only 4 years old if that, with a HDD (and loads of bloody good progs on it too!). I hope I don't have to replace it already.

    no chance

DAB is utterly dead and no commercial broadcasters want anything to do with it

There is so little on TV that I want to watch anyway - and what there is of interest I can pick up off of the internets anyway. So I am not really that bothered. I'll wait till next year for the 3D super scan 'feel 'o' matical vibe a tube' slimline pastry thin web sub-surround klingo feelo vision to not watch X-factor and miss all the soaps.

No. BBC2 Wales switched of last week. It depends on the trasmitter.

I still have BBC1 Wales and ITV1 (HTV) and S4C.

EDIT - and I have 2 set-top boxes (I had 4 - but I gave 1 to my sister as a gift and my dad stole the other and a flat screen tv, the bastard!)

You may need to do a manual retune to get the right region's stuff:

    Next!

Anyway, looks like I'll have to make do with iPlayer/torrents at the moment for any BBC stuff. May as well take the opportunity to get a HD Freeview box for when HD Freeview starts in this region on 2nd December.
