Playstation 3 Advice

edited November 2009 in Chit chat
I am looking to buy a PS3 for Christmas, are there any bargains / packages out there worth considering ? I would prefer the bigger machine but are there any benifits of buying the slimline one. I would also prefer not to buy from a potentially dodgy online supplier, are there any comparisson price sites online, so far I have drawn a blank, any advice would be greatfully recieved, Thanks !

i bought my xbox306 and wii at ASDA, a couple of great deals i got too.

i sometimes buy games from tesco cos they are cheaper.

most people dismiss supermarkets, but have a look and see what they offer (they have the financial clout to do some low prices) also you might think about ringing up and asking if they are gonig to do any deals in the future, can be an arse to buy something and find the next week they have slashed the price.

I suppose I could always try Woolworths !

If you live near Kent you can have mine and a fair few good games for ?200 :) Never use the bloody thing.
  • edited November 2009
That is a good offer, but I live near Brighton, don`t drive and never have enough hours in the day to travel !
  • edited November 2009
A couple of the ASDA stores local to me are still flogging the PS3 fat at ?200 with a game. Might be worth checking your local store because the offer was nationwide.

Argos usually have a few good deals on with consoles, although good luck finding one where you really want all the extras they're throwing in for the price.
  • edited November 2009
That is very true, but at least if you get a few extras for the same price that you would pay without them, you feel less ripped off about it. The problem is as you say, they dish out the trash, not the treasure ! What would I do with a football game or a driving game, I hate football and I dont even pretend to know how to drive !

This one seems like a reasonable bundle.

    Sainsburys:

    120GB Slim ?249 with Uncharted 2 and Fifa 10

If you don't fancy the games you can trade them into CEX for ?53 cash or ?66 exchange making it less than ?200

The benefits of the slim are:

    Lower power consumption
Ability to bitstream HD audio (ooh..my amp lights up!)
Allegedly quieter (although very mixed reports in reality)
    Sync with Sony Bravia TV's

However you lose the option of installing another OS on the slim

I went with that phat as I prefered the look and trusted the build quality of the old one although it is becoming harder to find deals on the phat.

Sainsburys ps3 slim on its own ?199. Aparently some kind of offer on consoles at the moment, not sure if it covers all systems though.

The benefits of the slim are:

Not to mention the bigger hard drive, and of course it's smaller - the main reason I waited until they make smaller version, didn't want the huge monstrosity.

yeah, i think it was the indervidual managers at game doing it, rather than a edict from on high. was funny though, said plenty about the supermarkets buying and selling power. i think game has only lasted this long by selling useless extended warrenties.

game is great for buying second hand games and the supermarkets are great for brand new games.

i'm not suprised they are sold out at that price. i have been seeing improvment in supermarkets selling games, for instance an asda near me has a cool little section for games etc. but the tesco (which has better prices) manages to fit all console games on one side of a small aisle. the BBQ gear gets a bigger section.

if the supermarkets pulled their fingers out they could really clean up when it comes to selling video games.

If there is a game out that I'm really after, I tend to walk up to Sainsbury's too. We have a Blockbuster a little further up the same road as well and between them, I can normally get a new game for between ?5-10 cheaper than in town. Sometimes, it's worth that little extra walk ;)

According to customer services at Sainsburys, they only recieve about five Playstations at a time and they have already been pre-ordered before they arrive. I asked if I could pre-order one, they said sorry only staff can pre-order, I said " But you are staff, so you can order one for me " she said " But you are NOT staff ". I told her how wrong I thought it was that the general public could not benefit from an offer which has had TV promotion, but she insisted that she could not help !

    Bloody Cheek !

Could someone tell me what difference the higher disk space makes on the top range PS3, does it affect gameplay, or is it only of use for storing savegames ?

Sainburys rock ! Well sort of, I went there today to pick a fight with the manager over the non existant Playstation 3 situation and to get a little shopping as well. So I grabbed a trolly and some litter lout had left a discarded scratch off ticket in it and as we all do ? double checked it. There seemed to be a little too much silver left on it, so I scratched it off, only to find an extra ?6 symbol on it, so I cashed it in and got another 3 of the same ticket. I won ?134 on the 3 of them, feeling happy with myself I proceeded to battle. I asked for a PS3 and was told " out of stock ", so I demanded to see the manager. I told him that I had been told by a staff member that only staff could pre-order them and asked him what head office would have to say about this. He told me to wait there and he would check the delivery room. He came back with one under his arm and said it was one of tomorrows delivery ( Time travel ? ). So I snapped it up and went to pay, turns out I had ?125 on my Nectar card and a ?4 game discount voucher in my wallet from a previous shopping trip. So I picked up uncharted 2 as well and even got another ?3 game voucher with the sale, with the lottery winnings I was already ?263 up and it came to ?230, so I was ?33 ahead and a FREE PS3 and game, as it were. So I was as pleased as punch ! My lucky day or what ?

You should've just let him go swinging at them, then you could've stole his job when they fired him for assaulting a customer thus increasing your pay by about 150%

If my manager went swinging on someone, damn right I'd try to rob the position from under him whilst he was doing the disciplinary bollocks. That job has made me ruthless now, as soon as the night crew leader makes one really big fuck-up I'm going to rustle his job from under him, since it should've been mine in the first place.

The second he gets caught redhanded doing his usual 20 smoke breaks or taking 5 hours to put 1 aisle of stock up that should take 2 max, by an actual boss who isn't a pussy, I will be night crew leader and I will really be a complete nazi with everything.

If I can be consistent, tidy, and efficient I don't see why people who've been there 5 and 15 years longer than me can't be?

Thing that really stung me was though that the crew leader has only just been there a year some time this month, and they didn't even offer me the job even though I was next in the pecking order, and that he's a lazy cunt who hasn't got a fucking clue what he's doing half the time, and he's blatantly got away with so much shit that would've got me and the rest of the grunts written up or sacked. The bosses even go on about how useless he is, but nothing ever changes, I think they're scared to offer me the job as I'm almost robotic with how I stock stuff, if something's out of place I hit the roof.

There's that guy I work with with OCD as well, and for being obsessive he stocks pretty messy, no obsessive traits at all in his stocking he just jams it in there

I hate my fucking job! I'm gonna end up going postal soon, I still blame that job for my hair turning grey at 30, and the fact I always feel run down and crap.

Doing a shit dead end job really takes it out of you :D

I actually handpicked a staff member, a cheeky little girl who I have been served by many times and chat with her on a friendly basis, whilst she is checking the groceries through. I have dealt with people on this level most of my adult life and know some little tricks. Show an interest on a personal level ( within reason ) and you have a fan !

Yes I know what you mean, it can be soul destroying. With my case it was actually HIS shop and I was only there for a pre-set period ( he knew that when I joined ). In that time I turned the business around for the better. He knew very well that he owed me big time and the bull**it advice he gave to customers was very transparrent to all. They knew that they would get the full lowdown from me, leave with fewer non essential products, but come back more often and in the end would spend more !

Sounds like me after a bad day at the office. I take shit all day from business customers over the phone and i'm not allowed to say anything back. Is it my fault if they lose their internet or phone service? No! The people i work with are fine but the manager is a complete waste of space. You'll ask them to help you with something but their always 'too busy'. Fuck it, i'm going to walk in and quit tommorow! I'm sick of feeling tired all the time!

Thats where they get you, you don`t work, you dont eat ! You work and pay most of it in taxes, whats left is little reward for what you do, but you still end up doing it. The unemployment money situation has become really tight, jobs worse and fewer and more badly paid. So a lot of the unemployed turn to petty crime to make up the shortcomings of dole money, when the people around them are getting things, they want them as well. The world is being pushed further down the crapper every day, life, don`t talk top me about life !
