That Atari ST 'screenshot' on the OutRun advert still bothers me. Did they just knock it up in a paint package? They didn't even change the picture in adverts published after they released their actual travesty of a port.
I'm doing great! As you can see by my latest mugshot, I look a million dollars! Not only that, in six months time, I'll be allowed to buy my own wig! :)
As for Out Run, well, it was a huge disappointment when it came out on the Speccy. I've mentioned this before, but does anyone remember John Menzies and their video game adverts in the computer games section of their shops? It would be a 5 minute video playing on a TV screen showing the new releases. It showed the arcade version, the ST, Amiga, C64... and the Spectrum. God, it looked awful. At that point, the Spectrum started to look very old.

Probably a mock-up like the Speccy screenshot was.

To be fair all the other home computer versions were awful too.
Another CRACKING one, Nick :)
I can't believe you managed to get TERESA MAUGHAN to do the vox pops - what a scoop!!
Ah yes. Outrun. 1987. I was working on the computer section of Boots at the time. Well, I ran the computer section. I was in charge of ordering software and I remember how this game just FLEW off of the shelves. Like it or loath it, this game shifted tapes like you would not believe. I was ordering shed loads of this during December. We had all the versions and the one that sold the most? Why, the Speccy of course!
It has been an absolute joy to read these, Nick. I have really enjoyed every single one of them. You brought back some really good memory's for me and reminded me of some games that I haven't played for ages!
Thank you very, very much for all the effort and hard work that you have put into these. I really appreciate it.
Have a really good Christmas, mate. I hope you get everything that you wish for.
Take care
Very well done indeed, you really are an asset to the Spectrum community, Nick.
And re: Outrun on the Speccy - I thought it was awful, but the muisc was brilliant. But considering how good Enduro Racer was on the Speccy, it really should have been the same people who were tasked to do the Spectrum port of Outrun.
Just read a *very* nice comment about this on a Spanish forum - "imagine this on paper".
And you know what? It's possible. In monochrome, but it's possible. Remember the moving advert that was in Rolling Stone or Esquire or some such mag?
I thought I'd posted asking about this comment? Anyway, what do you mean, how can a moving advert be on paper? You don't mean the page flip technique, where you draw an image on the corner of a page, then on the next page, and so on, with each image slightly altered, then you flip the pages quickly to give the illusion of movement in the pictures? Surely not something as simple and obvious as that, but what else do you mean?

You can now get flexible displays which are as thin and pliable as paper. Bloody expensive, but the tech is there. It'll be commonplace in a few years time.

How's life in prison?

Last of the Vox Pops today...
Also this entry has a high dubadub factor.
At least the Speccy screenshot bears a passing resemblance to what they released!
