Last Chance To Play Xbox Originals online...No More Halo 2...

edited February 2010 in Chit chat
Microsoft are getting rid of the servers for all the LIVE enabled original Xbox games.

I still play Halo 2 quite a bit online and enjoy the odd game of Conker - Live and Reloaded too....Just thought that I'd give anybody else who plays the old stuff a heads up....

    http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/ still going strong.

Free and legal. And modded maps too.

I play Conker off an original disc so I should be OK. I didn't even know it was on XBL.

Shame but you all knew it would happen sooner or later.

Maybe the nutty XBOX original fans will put a server up for those who still want to play, it's been done before with other things.

And not just Halo/Halo 2, but every game with system link.

Oops! Sorry I saw that, but since you'd said modded maps I assumed it was for Halo alone :D

Yeah...the games will still work, you just can't play the multi-player online. Apparently they're stopping the online capabilities of the Xbox originals you can download as well as original discs..

Surely this must mean that X-Box gamers will get a significant refund, now that the products have been severely limited.

thers always a disclaimer on every live game.

it says something like. 'we reserve the right to halt live services anytime we like'

sounds harsh, but they can't be expected to support these live games until the end of time.

Yeah...they cover their backs well..technically they could stop supporting a game's online mode a week after release if they like!

What I want to know is, how long until "Halo 2 - HD!!" is announced for LIVE Arcade and we're charged more money for old maps..;)

yeah technically they could, but no one would buy their game and they get a shit rep.

5 years seems fair, maybe people should think about buying halo 3.

I did....and then the feckin' disc broke, and I had to go back to Halo 2......

But yeah, 5 years is quite a while for a game to be up and running online....trying to find people still playing some titles after 3 weeks is hard enough! Still, sad to see more online shenanigans coming to an end.....

I dumped it after you couldn't get a decent game of Crimson Skies anymore. Halo 2 was spoiled by the sheer number of juvenile idiots on it.

Seems stupid. People are still buying an XBOX for the first time, and now they won't be able to play online. I'm thinking of setting up my PS2 for online gaming. I bought the slot-in gubbins for it last year, now I'm just tracking down a suitable modem. I expect it'll be too late for that soon! Bah!

They've closed a load of the servers down for those games, I think it was last year or 2 years ago Capcom shut down the servers for the Resident Evil Outbreak games. The Mortal Kombat I'm playing at the min has an option for online play, but I doubt it'll work now. The Skinny PS2 I bought does have a little plug in the back for a cable though and I think it came with the required hardware already in there? Never actually checked but like I say the socket is there.

I find that's a general problem with any online game these days. no matter what I choose to play online (which isn't very often), I always find at least one American kid, crying that people are ganging up on him, or not playing fair. When i played the Aliens V predator demo on the PS3 the other day, there was this one kid who was playing as a marine and was getting seriously owned by everyone, even the other marine players. All I could hear was him winging about people on "his own team" killing him all the time. Stop being so shite then :-P

I bought a fully working Xbox in the clear case at the car boot on sunday for a fiver.

Just fancied one and they seem to get better prices on Flea Bay than the normal ones.

Think Ill stick with the 360 though.

I was really pissed when they closed the Outbreak servers... although by the end it, it was really abandoned and not many people played it, they closed it in the exact week when I got a friend of mine to buy the game to play with me (you can imagine how pissed he was...) specially because, no matter how bug of a RE fan you are, those games where nearly unplayable if not online... (and even online, you would get real assholes as teamates that would totally ruin the gamming experience...)

I don't get it why they close the servers, it can't be THAT expensive to keep them...

I use an Xbox for XBMC, it's fantastic. In fact I could do with another Xbox just for that purpose.

Yeah, the slim PS2s are ready to go online straight out the box...just stick an interweb cable in the back and away ye go...

I miss playing Battlefield 2, SOCOM 3 and Timesplitters Future Perfect on my PS2....I dunno if they're still online or not, 'coz my slim PS2 broke...:(
