American Football

Having just finished playing 'Endzone' I am wondering what other American Football games were made for the speccy? Any action games...unlike Endzone?

not sure if tv sports american football was ported to speccy...

the thing that got me into bothering playing it was the mega drive version of john maddens and then it got better with errm IRC 8 players on the PS1...or was that fifa.. it's a long time ago..

I wonder if the author featured on the cover like kevin toms always did :D hehe

    Ahhh my speciality !

    American Football

The game above is excellent against the computer (or 2 player). Choose your plays, eg BO for BOMB, SH for SHOTGUN, you should play it about 4 x speed in an emulator though as its very slow when they huddle every play. Played this many times, had some exciting games with it, of course dire graphics but its a great laugh

Superbowl by Ocean is buggy as anything and is terrible. Waited ages for this when it came out as i had pre ordered it on one of these adverts you get in Crash, finally arrived and was so unplayable.

    Endzone

Might have been the one you played, thought that was dire, 2 league tables ??

    The other End Zone...

    Havent played much, looks decent

But my favourite of all time...

    Headcoach

Played this TONS ! I mean tons ! It crashes at season 100 by the way ! Put it on the highest skill level and prepare for a season or two of losing but then slowly your team comes together. You draft players, trade and play the games. The games are a bit odd, just 2 downs and no punting but it actually works well and again you can have some exciting games. Passing on 2nd & 5 seems to do quite well. But play it on level 4 as the lower levels are so easy.

Graphics look basic as anything, its the american football equivalent of Football Manager as its all in basic but its a great addictive little game. Still play this a fair bit on my emulator

For me Headcoach is the best strategy game spanning seasons, American Football the best for single games.

Thanks for the help! I've loads to go at now:-)

I was right about Cyberball, its still slow and crap. Nothing to do with the speccy but the new Madden games on the Wii are great fun, well worth a try.

Yeah got Madden on my PC, from about 2 years ago but i've updated a fair few players. Still a great game, used to play it on my PC back in 2000 when they had free online play (for a year). Huge fan of Madden back in the Megadrive days and used to get the latest version every year, great game. NFL Headcoach by EA was impressive (quite a cheap download for the PC originally) but theres just SOOO many options it takes forever !

we don't need no stinkin' options... ;)

theres only one you need with maddens ... hail mary

There's also GFL Championship Football, but I can't remember whether it was actually any good or not.

Yep good times with the hail mary ! In American Football (the game) the equivalent is BOMB. Often incomplete but when it is complete its obviously for a huge long gain. None of this 1 yard screen pass rubbish ! Go for glory !
