I'm hoping someone will put me right if I'm wrong, was TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: The Beginning number 3? If so it follows suit if one were to guess it, an over reliance on gore and a complete missed chance to explain just why Leatherface turned out the way he did from birth to chopping board. I was expecting to see at least half an hour of him being nasty to frogs at school. I did go see this at the cinema really expecting it to be wonderful but it was a bit hollow. It was wonderfully shot and you felt woefully grubby watching it, but just missed the mark by about 5 miles.

Highlander - although not technically a trilogy...but then neither is Star Wars.

Highlander - WOW! Great idea, well done. Great setting. The Kurgan - a great baddy..some nice lines "I'm from lots of different places...", "Why Garfield? You cruising for a piece of ass??". Nice fights...and they got rid of the strings in the digital remaster as well. Nice mix of flashback and modern day...

Highlander:The Quickening - I don't have too many quibbles with this film, in fact I have a major crush on Virginia Madsen to this day because of this movie! But it was universally panned and even the actors distanced themselves from it.

Highlander:The Sorceror - A slight return to form, but Mario van Peebles sounds far to ghey sometimes...not what you want from a bad guy - Kurgan would have kicked his ass, he should count himself lucky he was trapped under a mountain whilst Connor dealt with him! And what the hell were they thinking casting Kara Unger as the love interest? Couldn't they find a hot actress who wasn't busy??

Highlander:Endgame - Nope, run this one past me again?

Highlander:The Source - Never seen it. Not breaking a sweat to see it. Not bothered.

They should have left it at the first one instead of shamelessly milking it!

Highlander - There should have been only one.

Highlander II - If you're going to watch it - Watch the renegade version DVD. ALL the 'they come from another planet' rubbish is removed, loads of cut footage added, much better film.

    Highlander III - Leave it.

Highlander - Endgame - Its worth watching if you can get the double DVD with the rough cut feature... there is so much in this that should never have been cut and with better editing this film would have been awesome.... and it had a better ending...

Highlander - The source.... Oh dear... we were rolling on the floor with this one... there's an immortal in there who looks just like Rhydian form The X Factor.... best leave it....

Rocky III is awsome for so many reasons. With the exception of V, I love them all. III and IV are the guilty pleasures though...

Back to the future III was good too.

Yup, III has arguably the best fight scene ever in a movie - pure adrenaline. I'm also in a minority with V, I much preferred it over IV.

I can see the Family Guy spoofs of Star Wars following this trend. Blue Harvest was absolutely hilarious - solid gags every few seconds. Unfortunately, the funniest thing on the Something Something Something Dark Side DVD was the five-minute round-table read-through of the start of the script for We Have a Bad Feeling About This. Did they deliberately, ironically, make the middle one the episode people will refer to as their least favourite? Here's hoping the third turns out the best of the bunch...

Couldn't agree more, the first was hilarious and the second one was very disapointing, with only a couple of really good laughs. To be fair, many of the possible jokes had already been done in the first one, as they were about the main characters or the actors who played them, so the Family Guy people couldn't include the jokes in the second episode, but even if that's the reason for it, it still doesn't alter the fact that the for whatever reasons, the second episode (of the Family Guy Star Wars spoofs) is very much inferior to the first.

    Anyway, my film lists:

    Best,

    Spiderman 2,

    Superman 2
(either of these would be my vote for the best superhero film ever, I can't decide if I'd say Superman 2 or Spiderman 2, although if it's the Richard Donner cut of Superman 2 then I'd probably go with that one),
    Terminator 2,

The latest Star Trek film, don't know what number it was (ten, or eleven, I think), the one with different actors playing them all, apart from Leneord Nimoy playing the older Spock (with Sylar from Heroes playing the younger Spock), to me that reboot of Star Trek is the best Star Trek film ever. Aside from that, I'd say that Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Kahn is the best, if you insist that the latest ST film is not cannon.

Indiana Jones 3 (Quest for the Holy Grail) is the best Indiana Jones film, being utterly superb.

Can't decide with Alien film is best, the first is best for tension/horror, the second is best for action.

Mr Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie was fantastic (who doesn't like Bean?), and is still one of my favourite films.

Robocop, the first one was brilliant, and came out of nowhere (at least for me).

Ring (Japanese version, really called Ringu, not the awful American remake was very good). The first sequel, Ring 0 (again, the Japanese one, not the American ruination) was OK.

Evil Dead - I can't decide if I prefer 2 or 3, as they are different types of film. ED2 is straight horror, whilst ED3 is horror and comedy and more surreal. And even though ED1 is the weakest, it's certainly not a bad film. One thing though, the alternative ending to ED3, where Ash is working in a supermarket, is far better than the real ending.

Terminator 2 - very good, and unusually for a twenty year old film (who old????) the effects still stand up today. I think that one of the best things about the film is that the bloke who plays the T1000 really did it so very well - he really looked cold and unnerving, and walked about like he was totally disinterested in everything except his one purpose. He didn't just act emotionless, as most actors would do when playing a robot, he made it seem threatening too. I hope he got an award for that, but I've heard that science-fiction films rarely get awards like that.

And Graz, I have to agree with everyone else on the planet; Terminator 3 was indeed by far the worst of the original three (I've not yet seen T4).

Matrix - the original was great (although the Thirteenth Floor was a better film based on a vaguely similar concept).

    Highlander - great film.

Die Hard - the first three are great films, but I like DH1 the best.

Can't tell the Nightmare on Elm Street films apart it's been so long since I've seen them, so I can't comment on them.

    Worst:

    Superman 4. Terrible, terrible film.

Spiderman 3: Not bad, except it's very rushed (we see too little of Venom, for example, he deserved a lot more screen time and build up) and that bit in the cafe/bar where Peter danced was embarrassing.

Alien 3. I don;t think it's nearly as bad as some people say, but it's inferior the rest. I liked the fourth one too. Can't stand either Alien vs. Predator film, though.

Ring 2 (the Japanese second sequel). It's bad, they have no real ideas for the film, so they try to make a scientific theory to explain the events of the films, and it just results in a bad film.

Robocop 3. RC2 was disappointing, but at least watchable. RC3 was awful.

Highlander 2 and 3 - I can't remember which was which, but they were both bad, if I recall correctly.

Matrix 2 and 3 - I can't remember which was which, but they were both disappointing, although there were some good points in one or both films. I would have preferred them not to have made these sequels, though, as the first one would have been a great standalone film, leaving you to wonder what happened after the film ended.

Mr Bean on Holiday (or whatever it's called, it's where he goes on holiday to France). Massively disappointing, with only a couple of laughs in it, and very predictable.

Die Hard 4 - Not too bad, but science fiction rather than action,

Police Academy III for the best anyone?

Good call with Halloween III. Great film that. The scene with the test audience family still creeps me out. Exorcist III was also a decent movie after the madness of II, and includes one classic 'jump' moment. For bad horror, see Howling III (PG nonsense featuring were-kangaroos), Children of the Corn III (the ridiculous 'corn' monster at the end is LOL) and Creepshow III (no Romero, no King, no budget).

For most disappointing I would say the last pirates of the Caribbean. Watched it twice - still have no idea what the hell's going on.

There's actually a great second sequel on TV this week - Death Wish III, on ITV1, this Friday night. Charlie Bronson, capping street thugs and various ne'er-do-wells in NYC. Don't miss it!

Ooh yeah. And I know exactly the bit you mean :-) That bit was only surpassed by the calligraphy bit in the original Hong Kong version of The Eye.

I actually preferred the 2nd one even though it was panned...

3rd on struck me as pretty much a close to exact remake of the 1st!

Bad guy does pretty much everything the bad guy in 1 did....the car ride, the prostitute....If you compare the 2 side by side there are many many repeated scenes....same story with the love interest..lots of repeated scenes.

Really ? Rocky V was a nice idea but was quite dull compared to the other films. Rocky IV was so over the top i love it, the soundtrack was superb and i still listen to it a fair bit. So ridiculous the whole US vs Russia thing but just a great bit of escapism.

Thought Rocky VI was a nice finale to the series, bit like the last Rambo film as in they both were pretty good and a nice end

I made a cold chisel in metal work, it took me a whole year to get it nearly complete, then it fractured in the middle and wobbled, everyone thought it was funny as they were onto their 4th or 5th project by that time. I got kicked out of metalwork after that and had two woodwork classes a week instead of one. I was so great at that, that the other kids used to take my work and rub the pencilled in name out, and switch it with theirs. I got kicked out of that after that year as well, I was exempt from any sport as well for my entire senior school, so most of my school life was reading studies in the library, where I used to booby trap the shelves, and watch tons of books tumble to the floor every day, after three years, this too became boring, as most of my entire school life was.

    Well, I can top that!

There was an engineering course which you could take instead of French - but as usual, with my name being Smith, I got no chance as all the spaces were filled when it came to me. Anyhow, some friend - name of 'Coffee', wanted to stay with me in French (has was gay, I found out later) dropped out of the course - and jumped in!

    Built an engine! Arse intact.

I know what you mean, all of the good things at my school were on an alphabetical system, by the time my name was coming to the top of the list, we had school breaks, and the lists all reverted to A again. I missed out on all of the good things.

It gets worse than that mate - having to wait is a big 'bug bear' [sic?] for me, and having to be called last into court is a big panic bottom pooher - I want to be first in for once!

EDIT - lets make it fair, let's do it alphabetically.

No! Why should I go last every time. That's not fair!

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love IV (especially the soundtrack), but I enjoyed the whole Rocky going back to the beginning aspect of V. VI was a cracking film, handled surprisingly delicately with good performances all round. Rambo IV was a belter too (soooo violent), but apparently it's not going to be the last one in the series...

Actually Rocky IV is probably the best film I've ever seen at the cinema. The place was packed and everyone was cheering like it was a proper boxing match - atmosphere was electric.

Ooh, I didn't know about that - I just heard it was an 'Alan Smithee' film and not part of the actual Highlander series. I saw it at the cinema and, oh dear, I wished that I hadn't bothered. Funny though, I've had an urge recently to track it down and watch it again! I'm gonna have to find this 'renegade' version!

I am not really much of a film person (I don't think any good films have been made since 1977 - Jaws and Star Wars killed the cinema, even though they are both quite good themselves) but I would like to mention the Dirty Harry series in this thread. The first film is great and the second is not as good but is still a decent cop thriller type of thing. From the third film onwards they are all dross. I think they made 5 altogether.
