I call him "barry onions" these days :) I can understand if he endorsed say popcorn.. but onions?!?! they are quite noisey when watching films surely?!?!
I dunno about that. Kermode put High School Musical 3 in his top five films of 2008. Seriously. He said the film did exactly what it set out to do, and did it very well.
Kermode is brilliant doing the Radio 5 film reviews. I don't think he'd hate reviewing the more mainstream stuff (he has great fun being rude about it). I think the problem would be that he might be expected to give it undue prominence (relative to his opinion of it that is).
As many other people have noted, he is certainll not a snob and often comes out in support of unexpected films (highschool musical 3, Mamma Mia, anything with Richard Gere etc.)

Maybe, but he often is a self-important knob when it comes to the mainstream. So he says that High School Musical 3 does what it's supposed to, but then berates the Transformers movies for being all about effects and explosions. Well, duh..?

The thing is I really like Michael Bay, he does big, silly, spectacular mawkish films and on certain occasions that's exactly what you want. Armageddon for instance is fantastic on a hangover. Despite this, and despite having a huge amount of nostalgia rooted affection for Transformers, I thought it was a dreadful film, not as bad its sequal but it was a close run thing.

That's romcoms f**ked and horrors in luck then!
He is a big fan of Mary Poppins though.
he will have to review romcoms and teen films which he will hate.

Aye the last thing you need is a bloody Maccum on TV :D
He's absolutely correct.

Haha! bit early, it's still 3 days until April Fools :D
Go back x number of years and i bet people were going mental when they chose Jonathan Ross to do the job (thought he did it well)
At least they didn't go for an unknown...
Er, who's Claudia Winkleman anyway?
Well, fingers crossed he'll do another round of 'The incredibly strange film show'
Hmmmm a little bit older, and a little bit of make-up she almost looks human, she's still a skanky maccum though ;)
