PGD Game?

edited April 2010 in Development
Alright I've started playing around with PGD today since I can't get near the TV.

Maybe it'll turn into something worth playing? :D

If you have any questions on it, I know there are plenty of us here who would absolutely love answering them. ( Oh, you so mushy, mushy, big time, mister! -Ed)

Might be worth waiting a few weeks for when Jonathan finishes PGD 2.

There are a few issues in PGD 1 (Collision detection, no sound when you jump or collect objects, sometimes leaves a different colour background if you collect an object on black etc)

I think Jonathan has sorted out these issues so i would wait for PGD2 which on paper sounds brilliant.

Not sure when its out, hopefully Jonathan can let us know pretty please !

Still plenty of tweaking and testing to do yet. I'll also be trialling a simple ULA+ palette editor option in AGD 2.4 in the next week or two, and if that proves to be okay it'll be included in the new PGD. The block editor needs to be reworked a bit before that can happen.

Well after much experimenting, swearing, and general frustration I've worked out a way to combat any collision based tomfoolery with my main sprite. and that was to make the main sprite almost fill the available grid.

So if this does turn into anything playable I've already decided the theme, it'll be a spinoff game based around one of my JSW baddies. I think I've put him in more than 1 game, but afaik he's only appeared in Bizarre. I think recent mentions of this game may have subconsciously planted the idea in my head especially when I wanted a chunky looking sprite? Maybe?

I've decided on a working title for now which'll probably stick if I take this any further "Mean Trolls Warehouse". So far I've got the Mean Troll sprite, slightly modified from his JSW incarnation due to the fact you can have 16 instead of 8 frames for your main sprite, although the modifications are very minor. I have 1 screen layed out as a test, but I'll probably change and tweak it if I do continue with this game.

    Here's a screeny.

Just incase anybody is interested at all really :)

Well I've scrapped this idea I think, maybe I'll just wait for PGD II?

Opened JSWED for the first time in months yesterday, looked at a few of my unfinished JSW games, read a few of the texts that go with them to get myself back to where I was.

Maybe I'll add to a few of these while I actually work out what to do with AGD? I'd like to do something, but now I stop and think to myself, what exactly am I going to do with it? I think I actually have to come up with an idea first, before I commit myself, but obviously I'm going to have to put together some shite game first just to see what the deal is :D

I found myself in exactly same position (ooerr!).
I really wanted to do something but didn't know what. In the end I just kept plugging away adding things to AGD until I saw something I liked. This went on for months. As this progressed, ideas for games cropped up and were thrown out. In the end I had enough good looking graphics, which in turn fired the idea that finally became Kyd Cadet.

Some people work differently, but I find just throwing graphics about tends to throw up ideas.

You try to draw an alien sprite and when you see it you realise it looks more like a rabbit. You tweak it a bit.. and it becomes a slug... Idea !!!

Repeat for 3 months and eventually something gells... hopefully :p
