yea, if you still are up for the "Retrocade" title i brought up ill give some clasic games a try. i figure though that a tape needs at least 4 of these older type games to be worth the price, unless they provide a good amount of game play to keep players busy until they can beat it.

noticed you put your space invaders pic on your site :) i was thinking of a space invaders too, but i dont want to make it exactly like the arcade. i think i want to take an old idea and do my own version of it. id also like to do an updated missile command type game, maybe with nice backgrounds, a panel at the bottom where a superior is giving orders and shows damage and points.

another game also came to mind the other day and it's one that i think didnt come out on spectrum. a long time ago in the atari 2600 days i bought a book that had screnshots and tips for dozens of arcade games, i was thinking about that book and Food Fight came to mind, which was featured in the book. i'll check the archives and see if there's a Food Fight there. even if there is but it sucks i might try a better one. i might rename the game "Hey! There's starving children in Africa y'know!"

but i still want to make this text adventure P.A.I.N. followed by a sequel DOGS OF WAR. ( i know, i havent 'started' the first and im already thinking about the sequel  im all dream and no do 'sigh' )

as far as i can see i only have 2 problems with this though. i need to do screens that are 2/3 of a screen and be able to compress/compile them all into one file + when you walk in a room and a screen loads it only displays at the top 2/3 so it's not messing up the text and what not at the bottom. im not into making an adventure without screens. and it may have 42 cloumn text ( looks reeeal nice ) and doesn't use Input a$ and what not. I'm not using an adventure creator im doing it from scratch.

seuck is good for some other platform to do old type games for the Retrocade collection, if they dont code, but people will have to be creative i guess otherwise their game will look like every other seuck game, at least on the C64, the Amiga and ST(?) version are a little better. dont know if a cpc version ever came out, but i dont think so.

anyway, Sid Spider is coming before all that. ill see if i can send you a small demo so you can get a taste of how it is so far.

still havent sorted that Commodore disk thing?

Sure - I'm definately still up for the idea. I think either 3 or 4 games would be a good number.

Sounds great. I had an idea myself, of doing an update of GORF. You know how Gorf took 4 (or 5 on the arcade version) mini arcade games like Invaders, Galaxian etc. and incorporated it into one big game.... Well my version would take mini versions of 4 or 5 'different' games, to make a 'GORF II' sort of thing. Maybe Missile command, Asteroids, etc. I haven't decided!

As far as I know, FOOD FIGHT never made it to the Spectrum in any form, and it's a corking little game. I've only ever played it on the Atari 7800 myself.

    aren't we all :)

The trouble with SEUCK is that it's very restrictive, and games always look like they've been created with it! It would take a very creative person to disguise it enough :)

    Look forward to seeing it!

Have sorted it now! No worries at all. I've even got a fast loading tape system sussed. The first C64 game BALLOONACY will be out very very soon!

    Cheers,

yea me too, as long as they have an average replay factor or, whatever.

hey great idea, if they fit in Ram, you just design a menu and selectthe game you want! :)

yea, i enjoyed it. for now i am thinking Food Fight, Missile Command, Maze Craze and Space Invaders OR Dig Dug

yea :) most or alot of us i guess, but each of us thinks we're the only one, or the worst of the lot :)

well the difficulties i mentioned are the last things pretty much( although i may want music )

but, the adventure system is complete and done! all i need is to customize it for whatever type of adventure i want. i can use it over and over again.

The trouble with SEUCK is that it's very restrictive, and games always look like they've been created with it! It would take a very creative person to disguise it enough :)

yea, thats what i meant, but moreso the c64 version, the amiga version is pretty flexible, the st version i assume is similar to it.

anyway, Sid Spider is coming before all that. ill see if i can send you a small demo so you can get a taste of how it is so far.

ah do em all! :) im still waiting for PGD for krikees sakes :D. J.C. sent me it but i dont know if it's the last version or if he worked on it more after. nice of him, also sent me the instructions.

yea about sid spider, last i spoke to David we estimated aholiday season release, which, im not sure is either ood or bad. we also want to add a collectible to the game, a sticker, something, not sure yet, we'd have to work it out with you. wont get into it here, dont want to ruin anything for anyone. ( but i think this game is going to be a modern classic, it just has that quality, that even those who caught the demo when it was available for a short while didnt get to see but got a little taste of, they havent experienced it yet - to sum it up - VERY FUN - unbiased i say this unto thee :)

    cheers.

The Gem Machine should be finished in a couple of months too. :)
Could be finished earlier if I had a bit more spare time and less real-life(tm) stuff to do. ;)

I'm still working on my red dragon adventure game. I should hopefully get a demo finished by the end of the month as I don't start my new course until October.

I know that it's been in development for a very long time since I started its complete overhaul, but that's mainly due to other commitments, interests, and doing the hardest part of all - writing the story! However, it's coming on really well despite that it's being programmed in BASIC and that my programming knowledge isn't great, but it's shaping up really well. Even the story itself is shaping up to be a classic as it has so many exciting, sad and scary scenes to it (it's good enough to be a movie IMO)!

For those who don't know about the game already (I'm pretty sure that some of you played the original and absolutely dire demo of it more than a year ago), the game's full title is 'The Curse Of The Red Dragon' (I've changed 'Legend' to 'Curse' to avoid confusion with a recent cartoon series called 'Legend Of The Dragon'), and is in fact heavily inspired by Dragon's Lair. It's about an evil and very powerful red dragon that has come back to life 1000 years after it was killed by a legendary knight called Azura. It has since kidnapped the beautiful Princess Lorna, King Leo's daughter, from their castle located outside the town of Marcegarde. The king has chosen you, Arthur, a brave knight who has studied dragons for many years, as the one to rescue the princess and to kill the red dragon once and for all. However, you will soon find out that the red dragon seems to have other ideas. Kidnapping two young, innocent children is one of them. Is he hiding some kind of secret? And what's this other specimen staying close to him? All will be revealed soon!

This is a very different adventure game compared to others on the Speccy. The game itself is being designed with younger gamers and those who are beginners at adventure games in mind. Instead of typing in instructions like 'take sword' or 'kill monster', the actions are chosen from a list, allowing for simple and less frustrating gameplay. The gameplay itself is also more plot-based than puzzle based, but there will be a few puzzles, simple and challenging, thrown into the mix! The battle system itself is very similar to console-based RPG games, where each fight between the player and the enemy/enemies is taken in turns. There won't be any potions, character upgrades etc just the simple attack and defend, but brains are still needed as constantly choosing the attack option is usually a bad idea with most of the tougher enemies!

I'm also thinking about turning it into a podcast story too, so that if you haven't got a way of taking the game with you on the road you can always listen to Arthur's adventures!

Whatever happened to Sid Spider? Such a great game - shame that it seems to have fallen through the cracks.

Love playing Sid Spider, but it is a shame that it never got a proper cassette release. It really deserved it!

Don't hold your breath but its always possible it will come back. I pretty much have control over it alone with David out of the scene and if I can't get in touch with him then whenever there is some coder willing to take on the task (hopefully I can get the source to make things easier) it might happen. Unfortunately people didn't come up with good levels for it so it was just me and David. I'll have to finish the remaining levels myself if I really want there to be 100 of them. I may give the level editor to the coder, if and whoever that might be one day, to have a shot at helping me finish them.

But right now I'm unemployed (again) going through my savings quick and trying to start making a living online (hopefully) so that has to come first.

Thanks for remembering Sid Spider though. I'm glad you like it.

Why finally Sid Spider didn't make it for a cassette with Cronosoft?

And, another idea, would be nice having Albatrossity and Rallybug in tape.

    Cheers!
