Any good Co-operative games?

edited April 2010 in Games
Anyone know of any decent simultaneous 2 player games on the spectrum? I'm thinking something like Contra was on the NES. I've looked at golden axe, but sorry it's awful!

I know the Renegade games are 2 player. I just wish I could get hold of one of them on disk. Please tell me you're playing at the same time, not one after the other like super mario bros?

Seems the speccy didn't have many co-op games....

The original Rene is in series, Target Renegade is simultanious 2 player.

Why not try something like Gauntlet, or Spy Vs Spy for a start they're quite fun in 2 player.

Batty has an excellent 2 player co-op mode. I am surprised no other Arkanoid clones have ever thought of implementing the same system.

I don't know if it's the kind of game you are looking for, but Psycho Pig UXB is fun to play in two players mode! Total mayhem!

Others have pointed them out but these are the best easily...

Ikari Warriors - superb 2 player
Match Day II - can play against each other or both on the same team
Bubble Bobble - again a great 2 player game
    Gauntlet - great arcade conversion
Batty - as mentioned, very good 2 player game
Match Point - Great tennis game
Super Sprint - Good laugh as is BMX Simulator

    Golden Axe.

But my fave Speccy game to play co-op is the already mentioned Ikari warriors. Best ever.

I SO wanted this to be a great Commando type of game but it was a very average Gauntlet type game, worth a try.

Dandy is another, good Gauntlet clone

If you have blessing, to have (in 'these days') a pair of hands and pair of eyes beside you, over an Speccy (+cooperative) game, then I'd reccomend:

    DOUBLE DASH (Proxima)

Ultra-fast split screen, logical challenge, ....

    Your asking also fit:

GBA Basketball - Two on Two (Activision)

BTW, if I would have 'additional pair of hands'.. I'd go for "Big Match Soccer", but there's no co-operation so it's for an another topic ;)

I'd go for Hero Quest (1&2).
There are 4 characters to control (one by one) and I remember playing the game with my brother in 1994 or so, he had 2 characters and I had 2 - it was fun to explore labyrinths, and when monsters attacked him - he was screaming to me: "leave those treasure-chests and come here quickly to help me with these zombies!!" ;)

Ghost Hunters is a good co-op game. I think it was designed as a single player game though, but it's a real bastard to get to grips with on your own. If a second person controls the firing sight and you control the character, it works much better.

Having said that, it's a denied game (Codemasters) and I've not played it since back in the day as I only play emulated games on my own.

Oh yes, it is. Actually the 128K version has better music than Amiga500 (composition is the same but with more bass, and it isn't only 1 looped pattern but more complex version of the tune).

The graphic is made more/less from the scratch - which is good.
It is monochromatic, HOWEVER there come an unexpected advantage from this: all rooms have their own colors and corridors are (bright)white. It makes moving in the labyrinths much better.

    HeroQuest 1 = 48K/128K: http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0002302

Sadly the second part is only for Spectrum 128K:
    http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0002304

But it is not the same game what was released for Amiga 500. Spectrum's II part is "expanding disk" on A500.

Some important differences between ZX/A500: you CAN walk through your own characters that is much better than on Amiga. BUT you can't fight with enemies when more than one hero stands in the same place, so walking is easier but you still have to remember how to dispose heros in rooms and corridors.
Traps are more visible (and nicer-looking, in my humble opinion).

Also the ZX version isn't so hard in a POINTLESS way, like it was on A500 (which I still love :) ).

Last times I play the game on ZX, for a month or so, and I leave my 128 heatsink turn-on for entire days/nights so I could boil an egg on it. ;)
(Still no SAVING on Fatware - as it was SO incredibly hard to do. Grrrr).
