Target Renegade :)

You'd think that no more info could be corrected about such a well known game:

But I'll be picky. What is the correct title?

Target Renegade

Target; Renegade

Target: Renegade


I have learnt some time ago from Martijn that:
We have the rule that the full name is what is written on the spine of the cassette inlay

Let's have a look:

Shoudn't it be Target: Renegade (colon instead of semicolon)? :D

For me this semicolon looks like an artist's mistake. What would "Target; Renegade" mean?

    Simple:
    It means the artist didn't hold down SHIFT when pressing "that key" which holds both ":" and ";"

    I also see three different names, so in my opinion there should be (at least) three AKAs.

    Yeah, I never understood why it was TARGET; RENEGADE as the use of a semi-colon doesn't make sense at all. TARGET: RENEGADE is far more logical. I wouldn't be surprised if someone in the art department just made a cock up. Bearing in mind that Ocean/Imagine inlays often had typos with the most common being "It's program code, graphic representation..." at the end of the instructions. I guess it came down to whoever was doing the typing that day :)

    Confusingly, the loading screen has the semi-colon as well but I'm guessing whoever drew it (Simon Butler?) just used the inlay artwork as reference.

    The Hit Squad inlay doesn't have a colon or a semi-colon on the spine so I'd say it should be called TARGET: RENEGADE with two AKAs (no semi-colon and a semi-colon).

    Indeed, and that's how it's now listed.

    strange that they even used ";" on loading screen, all of the advertisements, *and* CPC version. This is more than a simple mistake, it's a design choice, I'm pretty sure it's "target;renegade", whatever it's listed on wos, it will be "target; renegade" for me always (sob)...

    By the way, Simon Butler didn't work on the Spectrum version... Only the C64 version.. Dawn Drake done all the graphics, including the loading screen.

    when I went to the shop I said

    "can I please have target semi colon renegade".. I didn't but hey ..

    there is a joke somewhere in there, about people being pedantic / anally retentive about tag lines with this specific title... I still don't agree with the aka as titles like rygar.. taglines yer.. but not main titles.


    I'm betting 99.8% of people will drop any punction from it's name.. and YER!! znor that means you also.lol

    Simon's name has been removed from the credits for this game.

    eheh, it's still different when you spell "target; renegade" and "target: renegade". it should be different in the emphasis and maybe duration (I'm not really sure about English).

    Why don't we all post voice recordings of your spelling preference? :)
