Highway Encounter

Hmmm! Surprised I hadn't done this one already as it's in my top 10.

I found this game super addictive. Played it loads, but never managed to finish it before the time was up. Three times I got to the 2nd to last screen, but failed miserably.

I'm sure it wont be long before I set aside time to have another crack at it.

;-)

It's a nice idea, but I'm not very good at it.

Any game that lets you control a team of marauding Dale.....sorry Vortons is alright with me though

Brilliant game but the difficulty is just a tad too high for a casual 8 bit gamer like myself.

    it's one of the easiest!

anyway, costa panayi was a genius.

Great game but too hard. Preferred Alien Highway though

Best of all that rarest of things on the Speccy - a decent end sequence!

It's an awesome game with a nice mix of shooting and puzzle solving. For an isometric game it plays at a blistering pace too; it's easily the best thing Costa Panayi ever made. If you've never managed to finish it, I'd suggest watching the RZX as the ending is something special.

Alien Highway was good too. I was lucky enough to meet Mark Haigh-Hutchinson once when he was giving a demo of it in a Manchester computer shop.

Its a fab game , not played it in ages , but i love the way the pillars disintigrate and the general feel of the futuristic highway ! Brilliant .

One game I have never played, but I may give it a whirl at the weekend. I quite like the idea of diagonal scrollers/playing fields (if it does scroll-I always assumed it did with the screenshots)

someone on here said Mark had died, BUT they also got permission to release the never seen before Atari ST version

Costa Panayi ... android 2 is prolly my fav game, or cyclone.. crap at all his games , but ah well.. highway encounter, and there was another part to it as well? but yer he work was consistent.

Yes... I did... unfortunetly Mark died not so long ago, but he gave the Atari ST version of the Encounter to a friend who then gave it to me. I got a permission from Costa to release the game to the general public which I did. You can get the ST version here: http://pc.sux.org/tomcat/HighwayEncounterST.zip

    Top game too. :)

Very very boring, almost pointless. I load it up, I play it, I get bored. Sorry, it's naff.

I like this one tho... http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0002247

Well, that one is more like "Zaxxon meets Encounter" ;-)

But yep... for me HATE is the third Encounter... always was, always will be. Top game too.

Superb game. One of my Top-10 games. Along with Cyclone, the best game of Costa Panayi. Very original concept, graphically great as Panayi is the wizard of 3D!

An absolutely brilliant game; easily in my top five Speccy games, and dare I say it the best isometric game on the Speccy. It still has the added bonus of looking fantastic even today.

It's not a difficult game, you just have to have a bit of patience blocking the following Vortons whilst you clear a path. The ending is one the Speccys best too.

I'm surprised he didn't sue the desert strike makers ;) hehe

I thought it was excellent, played it loads on my mates Spectrum and was chuffed that it got a release on the C64 by Gremlin Graphics, and as good as the Spectrum version at that, which I promptly bought. I managed to get somewhere like the second to last section but ran out of time as well. It was a great idea executed very well. It was a shame Alien Highway never made it to the C64 as that looked cool too but I never got to play that one at all, and only recently nabbed a copy of it from eBay for the collection, was quite an elusive one to find too.

Fantastic game. Again, I can get close to the end, but never completed it. It's really hard to keep your cool and not try and rush the last few screens once you get that far.

I gave this game plenty of goes but it left me cold. As with so many games, it's a victim of the usual clunky gameplay you get from isometric games.

Costa was amazing but this game wasn't for me.
