Thanks for video taping the ending. I can cross "Finish Rock Star ate my Hamster and see how it ends" off my "things to do before I'm 30" list :) Now to go beat Streaker!
But you still haven't finished it yourself... cheater! :p
I don't know, these kids today will take the cheap way out of anything :p
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Thanks guys.
"I'd like to thank Itsallgood, Starglider, my manager, my producer, my record label..."
I have a confession to make but I'll leave that until later.
I have finally finished Rockstar, going platinum four times. This comes after 21 years of trying and only with a money cheat. I feel comfortable doing this as I believe it is the ONLY way to finish the game, could this be a potential bug or flaw?
My confession!? I did it on WinUAE. I know, sorry...!!! But the versions are identical.
I did it this way, and feel free to use this as a guide - the rock stars I chose were Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Morrissey and Phil Collins. I chose these as they star in the opening credits and all have a reputation for quality and Morrissey is dirt cheap. I don't think the fact they appear in the credits mean they work per se but I wanted to take the pressure off me having to choose.
Bought spanking new equipment and practised for five days, as happens occasionally I got offered a recording contract before a gig due to the quality of the rock stars. I think this goes a long way to suggesting you are looking at doing well in the game where as if you have to wait to gig you probably aren't going to do as well. Worth noting.
I accepted the inferior contract and did some gigs to raise the funds to get me through recording the album. I then gigged again to raise the funds to release a single. Knowing I couldn't afford Steven Speilberg I also knew I couldn't afford to waste time waiting until I could, so I released a single hiring the best I could get. At this stage I was only in early February.
The single did modestly and quickly fell down the charts but my album was in the top ten, so here is the key - don't concentrate on where your single is, rather look at when your album peaks in contrast to your single. My second single went in at number seven and then went to number one the week after. It remained there until the album also went to number one, all smiles. Now the single dropped to number three so I knew it would soon go out of the top ten, as I mentioned RELEASE A NEW SINGLE STRAIGHT AWAY rather than waiting for it to drop out of the chart. The album will theoretically match the performance of your single and will only drop one place at a time, you can waste weeks and weeks waiting for a single to fall back down the charts when you should be releasing another that will often get in the charts before your album has left even the top five.
All successful games of Rockstar have the album never leave the chart, indeed often the top five itself. I went platinum before October had even finished and the game ends.
Publicity - a pain to be honest as it is still unclear to me whether it has an effect on chart performance. I tried to play a game in which I virtually never used it but often got bored so would do a stunt on the Monday a single was released. Even with this softly softly approach I only finished the game with Phil Collins and stopped doing them completely so as to not get a game over message. If they DO have a positive effect on sales I would suggest that they only help you get into the charts sooner and higher, once a single was in the charts I found it did well off its own steam as, stated above, I only did them when I released a single.
Gifts - this is interesting and it is linked to publicity. I purposefully denied the rock stars any gifts as I got the impression that when they made the papers for wrecking a hotel room it counted as publicity. When they demanded changes to the show it was often less money to have a laser show than buy them all cars. ***BEWARE*** Tina Turner got bored of this and quit without an ultimatum, she basically left the game which, if she had been my only member, would have ended my game also. So whilst I can't gaurantee that this method is useful I did use it during my game in which I went platinum.
I didn't practice after the first week, as an aside, when I played on this game 21 years ago my routine during the game was practice five days, gig seven days, gifts and publicity every week and if I had time maybe make number eight on the charts!!! How naive I was!
So in conclusion, I feel like I have conquered Everest!!! Hopefully completing the game won't mean I never play it again but I completed it maybe two or three games after reading the tips on this thread so essentially the game isn't THAT hard, just quite rigid in it's strategy and quite shallow. A remake keeping the core of the game but opening up the features would be great.
just quite rigid in it's strategy and quite shallow.
In that respect it's still very realistic

Oh, and congrats. I can't remember ever getting one Platinum disc, the game was rock hard.

Just spotted this. Congrats to WISE OWL for getting through it alone, took a few of us WoSsers to finally beat the game (all I did was the last couple of months). It did feel great though, despite the ending being a bit crap.
It certainly did - I was one of those WoSsers!
Not been about much lately what with starting a new job and everything but it's nice to see this thread back again.
I hope you are well Mr. GreenCard :)
