Looking good for lunchtime tomorrow now. Surprised PAK lasted the day out and found it strange they didn't keep more attacking fields. Could be a tricky little chase and the weather forecast isn't great for tomorrow. I still expect most of the England team to be in The Bell by mid afternoon.
What an amazing day of test cricket. Wish I'd been there. England dead and buried at 45-5 then 100-7 - close of play 346-7 and only 2 runs away from highest score ever for the eighth wicket against any team. The Pakistanis must be gutted, i know i would be
The Pakistanis let themselves down, really. Amir bowled beautifully (with some help from the conditions in the morning session) and then they let us off the hook with some more poor fielding and strange bowling changes. Great play from Broad and Trott.
oh dear....looks like a couple of pakistani bowlers have been accused of deliberately bowling no-balls in an undercover News of the World sting...might be why they turned up, to earn a few extra quid!
S'funny, I thought it might be their batsman accused of throwing it :p
Slightly surprised Mel didn't jump in to take advantage of this one.
Sort of joke he usually goes for. He must've not read the thread or something.
It wasn't a joke. The test / TV / Radio teams playing / working at Edgbaston use a pub called The Bell in Harborne. This is because Warwickshire have a number of houses close by for players and guests and its become a sort of unofficial meeting place.
Time to ban in-game sports betting? Legislate against being able to bet on the minute details of a match? Would have to be global, though...
Nice idea but useless. This sort of betting is all on the illegal betting markets so any legislation would be irrelevant. The legal betting markets generally spot this sort of "odd" betting pattern and report it themselves as has been seen in recent snooker events amongst others.

Ah... hadn't thought of illegal betting markets. So we're screwed, then? All we can do is ban sportsmen caught up in this from all competitive sport for life, together with a very heavy fine - maybe going as far as bankrupting them. Backed up with a team of honeytrappers (or whatever they're called), that should be a large enough deterrent.
And South Africa, India and Sri Lanka who have all been involved to some degree in the past. Way to destroy the game.
Edit and a couple of "dubious" Australian betting incidents but that was before players were barred from betting on the matches they were playing in.
Some, many, lots would say that Pakistan have gone a long way to destroy the game already. Not even close to the same degree. A couple of dubious batting displays against a plethora of strange and dodgy outcomes, performances and decisions...
South Africa was one player, 15 years ago and was dealt with swiftly.
Sri Lanka and India haven't had the same amount of 'whispers' and quiet, off the record accustaions made about them. IPL itself is riddled, but that is a league which is corrupt, not a nation.
Pakistan have had doubts over them consistently for years, including the 2nd Test against Aussie.
The thing is, there are no allegations that they threw the series, just that players colluded to deliver no balls at specific points for the purposes of spot betting. There's no way they could have predicted an England batting collapse... oh wait, I would have done. But the way they played in the 3rd test would tend to suggest they weren't playing to lose. Given the allegations, there was always a real chance they were going to roll over today, but Umar Akmal went down fighting anyway.

Possibly the most ironic post ever?
D.
Mind you, they nearly threw away the third test with some poor batting.
Meh, after two whitewashes, England became complacent.
Oh no, I'm not picking at England or indeed Pakistan, it's just that your first post struck me just as I was watching the news - quite a reversal.

Test will be remembered for the cheating, and not for 2 outstanding batting displays.
They (Pakistan) should be banned for good, time and time again they are caught with their fingers in the till.
