I didn't go to the retro thing, but I was in Sheffield a couple of weeks ago.
My home ISP is too slow to watch videos, but it's the Park Hill estate isn't it. I took this photo when I was there. Certainly dominates the skyline in that area! There's also that incinerator chimney nearby too.
yeah its park hill, not far from the parkway / m1
i used to live up not that far from there in the first shared house i had after leaving home at 18

but does buying off ebuyer and knowing someone from there count?
I think I sent some speccy games t'up north .. Sheffield included
It was build in the very late 50's and I'm guessing it was a mistaken vision of the future. I'm just glad this vision never too hold, else these type of flats would have gotten even biggerer and we'd would all be expected to live in them.
When I look at this image there is one Spectrum game title that springs to mind. Can you guess which one?
Jeebus Crivens! That monstrosity makes the Byker Wall look classy! :o
Nope.
TLL?
:-P
I'll give you a clue, the game was released in 1991 and was freeware.
Dammit Scotty, you're a doctor not a games guru.
Are you sure it was Freeware and not Public Domain
*Gets Coat* :D
in sheff we have those flats all over the place, the biggies were always park hill, hyde park, norfolk park and kelvin flats (mi mate wrote a book about kelvin flats cos he lived in em for that long)
i used to live in some smaller maisonette type flats before i moved up here, just 2 / 3 story high, the ones opposite used to have a pirate radio station in with the ariel on the roof
Nor I, not a ****tard.
that siqd game?
i was gonna say that but i din't know what it was called, what am i like.
I'm onto it Scottie ;)
Quite funny that is very appropriate, and judging from the looks of that rancid heap of tenements probably accurate
Derwent "The Rocket" Tower in Dunston Gateshead is a building of contrast, built in 1969 by idiots who thought this monstrous eyesore was a good idea for some reason. It is 280 feet high making it the tallest building on Tyneside, it contains 420 steps and 2 lifts, which are both covered in grafitti and piss. Nearly all 196 flats inside this revolting skyscraper have damp, most of the windows are broken, and the carpark has been flooded since 1973.
It is also home to 2/3rds of all of Gatesheads smackheads. Please stay on your side of the river you dirty little meths!

Always fancied paying it a visit. Looks like I've missed my chance now... :(

NEST OF BASTARDS!
Matt_B gets it congratulation you success!
In the 80's they demolished the Flat's in Hyson Green, Nottingham, unfortunatly they moved the residents out first.:p
Note the beautiful ramp.
Looks like Woody got it actually..top of this page..
I'm sure after the renovation, with a few garden gnomes outside and a repainted front gate, it'll be a right cosy gaffe. :D
You know I should really start posting on here more frequently again, I know I'm staying away too long when people are getting banned quicker than I can reply to them!
I've got loads more photos of council housing and tower blocks, one of my other hobbies is hiking in different places around the the country and taking photographs on my travels, mainly for Wikipedia and other web sites. Some of the tower blocks in Glasgow, Birmingham and London are really huge.
That Park Hill Estate in Sheffield ranks as one of the real great "Prezzagrad" style "It's grim up north" monstrosities though. It's probably a listed building. :D Certainly, on a par with standing outside Warrington Bank Quay railway station and the Unilever factory on a drizzly autumn morning for real bleakness. If only LS Lowry was alive today he would've loved all this I'm sure.
